  • The level of perfectionism and anxiety I poured into getting that ball beyond perfect is almost scary.
As a result of that commission I will almost certainly end up haunting that place when I’m gone I poured so much in.

The koko insta pissed me off by running a ‘guess how many mirrors’ on there. They never asked us for the figure, obviously can’t do maths and came up with a ridiculous exact number themselves which after all my work I found insulting.

It’s 3840 facets +/-5% in case anyone was wondering ;)

  • Fucking beeb hacks referring to it as a ‘glitterball’ fucked me off as well 😅

  • No craft I've done but I've been following this video series for a couple of years.

    https://youtu.be/HT8U818Sqls

It's fucking amazing. If I didn't have kids I think I'd be very tempted to pack up, go to the Pacific north west and volunteer on this project for as long as I could and learn to be a shipwright. Just watching it I've picked up so many tips and tricks that I now use on a day to day basis at my work, but the level of scribing on this most recent video is off the fucking chart!

  • Yep, I’m also a huge fan and have been watching since the first video. I’ve only been working as a joiner for just over four years, so the amount of useful information I’ve picked up from the series has been incredibly useful.

  • Does anyone want a wood lathe? I have an ancient but serviceable one for frees.

  • Where is it located?

  • You could be getting me into the type of trouble that involves Mrs Bobbo saying "don't you have enough tools?" and "where the fuck are you going to put that?"

  • The tip that the old boy gives about not using tape measures was genuinely life changing when I stumbled upon it in other circumstances a couple of years ago.

  • Potentially second interest in the lathe...

  • Got any pics of it?

  • Open to first to say ‘yes please’

  • I’ll drag myself to the workshop and take photos in a bit. Currently taking a two minute break from rocking out on the guitar with the newly acquired BOSS wireless headphone / amp / weird thing.

  • Yes please. But err what size is it?

  • Almost certainly the precise size that'll lead to your significant other butchering you with a bread knife. Leave it to me in the will which you should now make.

  • I think it may have to be hidden in the workshop to begin with.....

The only rule I'd be breaking then is the one I've never been very good at keeping, no hobby tools in the professional woodworking space..........

My anvil and gas forge are clearly woodworking tools.

  • No scale (I will measure for you if you wish) but over a metre bed length.

I have the chisel rest (terminology?) on one of my shelves.

  • Sold to a man who should know better.

It will fit in the back of my truck so I won't need to drive to gloucester with an empty trailer bouncing all over the road.

  • Bit more (very slow) progress. Hopefully the discolouration will be a bit less obvious under varnish. My garage host’s patience is wearing thin, looking for somewhere to rent more local instead..

  • The more challenging issues I have been putting off..

  • I have a sinking feeling.

It’s know like you don’t know what you’re doing

  • ? :(

  • It doesn't matter, so long as YOU don't get a sinking feeling......

  • This is true. I guess Light_EDDed doesn’t think much of my butterfly joints!

  • butterfly joints

    Look great to me.

Is that teak? What precautions are you taking with regards to working with it?
