I think it's as Thrasher says
People eat plant based but will wear leather trainers, use shampoo tested on animals etc
While to others, vegan is about 100% non animal products including non food.
Eggs and honey etc are neither really but that's for flexies to choose -

Done
cheers man

That is my take. I tend to think vegans have a clearer more defined ethical standpoint. This is why I thought it best to defer to members of this thread about a prospective name change rather than to request it directly myself.

Not too sure about this thread name/title change. Where do we go to discuss non-food vegan topics. Seemed the old title was fine, specially as there is already a thread about vegan/vegetarian food. So now we have a vegan/plant based food thread and a vegan/veggie food thread. Great.
Anyway, 3 glasses of (vegan) wine deep and perhaps i should pipe down for fear of sounding like the exclusionary radical vegan that I am.

Nobody uses that thread though.
No harm in both topics being in one thread in my opinion. You just respond to the bits that interest you -

The vegetarian and vegan food thread has been dormant for 3 years. My question was a point for discussion. Blame @salad-cunt for it being actioned.

I wasn't even aware there's a vegetarian and vegan food thread 💁

What was wrong with 'The Vegan Thread'?
Think adding 'and Plant Based' takes something away.

• #9661
I mean... You asked for searchability and wider appeal... But what's wrong with it? Needs changing again?
-
• #9662
I think it's fine personally

wasn't even aware there's a vegetarian and vegan food thread
Should I merge that into here?
Rename this one "the vegan cult" to make sure it's a healthy distance from the food thread?
Leave as is?
Revert to what it was?😁

‘Vegan, and Plant Based Food’
…and for my next trick, I will solve world hunger

Revert to what it was

Yeah. Sanity prevails

I thought PB was the specific term for the diet, whereas vegan encompasses the whole lifestyle and ethics too.
Why not keep this The Vegan Thread, and if the other foodie thread needs waking up by popular demand, just start posting there again? This thread never deviated much from the title theme anyway did it?
Shouldn’t conversations follow topic titles, rather than topic titles follow conversation? -

Helllooo. My ten-pence worth (as a vegan sector journalist. Yup, i'm afraid that is a thing):
Plant-based refers to the diet side of things only.
Vegan is a lifestyle that can be akin to a spiritual belief system and is now recognised as such for recruitment discrimination etc. No animal products of any kind, in any part of your life, is how I've always understood and subscribed to veganism. Used to be a lot harder, now everyone wants the green pound.
Despite our household being fully ethical vegan and me working in the industry, I'm not massively into lording it or turning my nose up at people who choose the plant-based route. It all helps and lessens demand for conventional meat and dairy. Though some of the alternatives are dubious, at best. I've been writing about Beyond Meat and Impossible foods today. Shitheads the pair!
In other news. The sriracha Tofoo chunks are a nice emergency freezer addition!

Was working at Vegan Life Live (magazine show) at Alexandra Palace at the weekend. After not being at any vegan events for a while, was impressive to see the diversity in attendees, especially the vegan kids who dragged their non-vegan parents to the show.

The the local vegan pizza place produces great stuff.
Apparently they ferment the dough 54h, super crisp and pillowy.
