Upgrade
Actually pretty good, I can let the small person do the pedalling and cruise along. Like an electric assist, but built around having a tiny slave.

This is relevant as I've won a Hammax on eBay without a bracket. Think I might get the rack attached bracket though as the bike already has a tubus.

Looks good. What's the cost of one of these?

Question for those with trailers, what age did you use them from?
We got ours when our oldest was 2 or 3, so not an issue, but now have a 7 month old and the hamax website says "from 6 months" but I fear she's maybe a bit wee yet. Really miss cycling as a family so keen to get out together soon.

Fecking pricy - like £200 - but they retain their value extremely well so I’m hoping to recoup a lot of that in about 5 years time when both the kids have worked their way through it. Tried a trail angel but didn’t like the way the kid was leaning at a very alarming angle every time I shoulder checked (and neither did said kid). This thing is stable as hell.
Kid review also good: we cycled to a playground but after a go on the roundabout and a quick swing she asked if we could get back on the bikes and ride around the park again. High praise indeed.

Yeah I thought they were spendy . What's yours or is there only one brand of this type of thing?

Our boys used the trailer from 18mths but the rear seat, from 9 months . As soon as they can sit up and support their weight plus, and this was the big deal, as soon as they're heads were big enough for a helmet was our deal

Cheers, we were thinking something similar.

It’s a FollowMe. I’m not aware of any cheaper knock offs.
Next step is a bafang, as available destinations are currently limited by the various fucking massive hills of Sheffield. @amey you did the bafang thing, right? What kit did you get / where from?
I 100% see an actual tandem in the future.

Absolutely amazing bit of kit, we loved ours. Miles better than other tow bars. Bit heavy though, take it off before lifting bike onto car roof racks!

I got the kit from Aliexress pre brexit, it was shipped from EU and the 350w with 17ah batt was exactly £599.
If you are in London I can help you install if you want. Its straightforward but to do it neatly/nerd out, watch some videos and read some forums :P I used a shrink cable net, battery mounting will be straightforward on yours, I didnt have cage mounts.
I had Alfine so didnt bother with installing the gear sensor as with Alfine you have to stop pedalling to change gear anyway.
I also didnt bother installing the brake sensor, that tells the motor to stop when you actuate levers. Who pedals and brakes at the same time?!

Who pedals and brakes at the same time?!
I do, all the time! When I’m doing tight corners and technical bits of maneuvering at slow speed. Although I don’t think I’d want the motor to turn off if it’s a mid drive. Id just pedal really softly. What’s the torque sensor like on the bafang?

thats what the throttle is there for ;)

Oop 😂.
I rode a bike with a motor in the front hub and that is definitely an instance where you’d want it to cut off when braking. Would just kick in with some gusto randomly. Not a fan lol.

I think the general consensus is that they should be able to hold and support their own heads, unless they're sitting a carrier specifically designed for babies.
-
• #568
Good knowledge, cheers. Reading up on installation, the brake sensor sounded like the faffiest bit - magnets?!?! - but if you can skip that and not die then great.

FFS, I appear to have lost the key to my hamax bracket before I've even used it. Any way of jimmying this open? It appears to be locked by default.

Slowly refining kid hauler as we are using it pretty often in the summer, think next step will be swapping rear wheel for nexus8, front wheel for a 250w helper. Maybe swap for disc fork. Also picking up a massive basket bag next week. Think next will be a sun shade for the little one

Ooh I love a katu. Someone on the Facebook group was selling an electric version recently, very tempted but will probably go for a Radrunner eventually.

Yeah it’s great fun. I have been looking for an electric version or something similar for a while but at least where I am (Austria) prices are crazy at the moment. Even when one does come up Relatively cheap (2500/3k€) I have found it tough to justify for a bike I will convert back to shopping/light cycle truck after. I already bought 2 long John cargos to try to use with the kid that failed for us, I’m over being over biked lol

My dad carried me and my sister on an old three-speed opafiets along with our all our stuff for daycare/kindergarten.
He thinks it's kind of funny that I'd like a cargo bike for my kids.
So underbiking is definitely a way to go. -

For sureeeee, it’s the same keeping up with tho Jones’s as everything else when you have kids. You are a worse parent if you don’t have an e-cargo with a Rohloff lol.

I feel very fortunate that there isn't a huge push to "keep up" within our imidiate social circle.
And to be honest, I've wanted a bullitt for myself a long time before I became a parent.
Pretty perfect dadbiek there.
Is that correct sized front flap stock or did you add it? Most mudguards don't have enough flap for UK conditions. Extra bonus points to Yuba if thats stock
