  • It is clear that the brass fillets are not sucking up as much paint as the steel is. I am showing the semi wet joints here, but the finish is quite nice and smooth when it is all hardened up. I am still excited!

  • Thanks Jack.

It has been curing all weekend in amazing sunlight, but I am afraid that the conclusion is that it still pretty soft. The black oxide has hardened up a lot more and seems like it might work on a bike, but I am afraid that Dodenkop won't be great at all. Handling it when sanding the dropout faces has scraped off the paint in places and the paint isn't really liking the brass fillets.
Different pigment pastas harden up differently and I am sure that I can get better results if I keep pushing. But Dodenkop + fillet brazed frame is not gonna work with my current setup, skills and knowledge. And I can just see how my new Witslingers framebag is gonna be abrasive on the paint and might actually end up looking shit it I can get the paint off the webbing etc. I am sure the frame it self won't be damaged by riding a season with linseed oil paint coating.

So, do I 1) give up already now and get the frame powder coated, 2) patch up the scratches and ride the fuck out of it over the summer or 3) remove paint and try a harder curing linseed oil paint? 4) acknowledge that the industry is probably onto something I should be just listen and learn and teach myself to paint 2K? I even got a new mate who is able to teach me
