Do you have a running club and a track nearby? It sounds as though we’re a similar pace, and mostly tri background.
I’ve certainly found that regular sessions at the track, surrounded by ‘proper’ runners really helps - I’m about 17:30 for 5k atm and hanging onto the back of the quicker group, whereas I’d be off the front in most run sessions with my tri clubI’ve also found cross training has helped keep up. Tend to only be running 45k a week (2 track sets and 1 easy run a week basically), but 6-8hrs bike and a couple of gym sessions a week are giving me a good shot at keeping up with some of the folk that run 100k a week but only run.

Yes, but young kids mean that most training is lunch time and after most people are willing to train. One of my run buddies is a pretty consistent 2:51er, and can do long Sunday runs with him and he’s running London aiming for 2:50 too so that will have to do!

Went out last night for a 10k form check and ended up doing a sub 40 somehow. Christ knows how - I’d downed a bowl of pasta and then loads of other snacks about an hour ahead so had very low expectations. That was also in some old Pegasus’ with about 1,000km on them and it was damp. Fluke day for sure.

Anyone had issues with Garmin’s not tracking distance properly? Went on a run on Sunday and today and both times it was underreporting by like 10-15%

Kind of. I have noticed that my old Fenix 5 has got worse and worse at accurate tracking near tall buildings and in forests. No idea how that could be the case but its definitely struggling in a way it didn't when it was new.
My new Epix 2 doesn't have the same problem.

That’s not far from me - will try and head over.
Is it just a show-up thing or do you need to register?

If you wanted to run you'd need to enter. The times you need to qualify are pretty quick.
Nice to sit on the grassy bank and drink some beers though.
I'm not sure I can make it either anymore!

Does anyone have any suggestions for old, worn-out-to-the-point-of-holes, running shoes?
I feel guilty for slinging them in the bin. Surely there's something or some organisation that can make use of the fabrics, or recycle them in to something else?

Also curious about this.

Nike stores in Europe accept trainers to recycle but I don’t think they do here

Found this, https://www.runnersneed.com/about-us/recyclemyrun.html?q=Recycling&sred=1
Not handing out vouchers anymore, but they still accept shoes to be recycled if you have a Runners Need near you

Another one of those tempting events! Isn't this one of Mark Cockbains?

Yes it is one of his. I've mixed feelings on this one, the big hills yes, but all the time inbetween less sure I'd enjoy.
Edale > Torside tomorrow as a final shakedown. I've never run less in prep for an event yet feel quite relaxed about it all as I know I'll be mostly walking on the 18th.

Today was a mostly great final recce. I tested race day travel and learned I need to go 1 bus earlier to comfortably get the train. I made it though, so was away from Edale around 8.45am.
Proper windy but I made good progress, averaging 4mph through 10 miles. The bit after bleaklow to Torside is slow going, infact from other recces I know I won't run much at all from the Snake Rd to Wessenden Res but can make time up again after the White House if legs hold up ok.
I took a tumble today at around 6 miles but rolled out of it quite well (for me, everything is relative and I'm not a gymnast) and carried on without too much bother, just a bit sore under ribs.
Sore has become achey, then sneezed and that felt not fun. 2 weeks will hopefully see me right, should be running tomorrow morning if I can move after a night in bed.
Anyway, some pics

Anyone here just do (or have done) the GUCR?

Glad to hear it went well. Did my last long run this morning. Soaked within the first mile from all the wet, overgrown vegetation and stung all up my legs by nettles. Still tingling now.
I tried something a little different and went out with no food and didn't have breakfast. Just water. Could have done with more water tbh but pleased to have good energy levels throughout, walked a lot more than normally would in order to try to emulate Spine pace a little better so it ended up taking longer than planned which means a bit of a rushed afternoon but reassuring to test the endurance. 27 miles all in, finally completed a route I planned months ago but never got around to doing the whole loop so got to explore some new paths too.

Fall update, abs pain getting worse, self dr'd as "First Degree Abdominal Muscle Strain"
A mild stretching of a muscle is diagnosed as a first degree abdominal strain and can result in localized pain, mild swelling, and pain with movement, coughing, laughing, deep breathing, or sneezing.
It is accompanied by mild tourettes like response whenever I aggrevate it, which makes me chuckle, which hurts more, which prompts another sweary yelp etc etc...
Hoping it eases up over the next week or so.
Looks like triathlon season is over before it started (f3 have apparently gone bankrupt and family commitments mean I can’t do Windsor or any other race in their roster this year) so onto endure 24 as a team for fun, then training for London in October which is the main aim for the year but hoping to update my pbs along the way.
Been working really hard to get down to around 70kg before training starts, ideally I’d be down to 68 by race day, but will let 12 weeks of training do that! Trusting my coach on the plan, will be fairly heavily volume based as that has worked in the past, have about 10 hours per week for training, which probably exceeds my ability in terms of coping with that volume but confident I can get up to a couple of sets of weeks of 120k.
In terms of aims #1 is sub 3 and stretch goal is 2:50, we shall see though!
