  • In flooring news the concrete has been ground and the levelling compound is down. I just need to remember to not go into the garage then walk it all around the house. The weather looks to be deteriorating this week so will see how progress goes but fingers crossed the epoxy should be laid in the next few days.

Could I ask who you used for this (If you didn't do it yourself)?

  • Yeah thought about doing it, but left it to the professionals in the end. I used a local guy but he might be persuaded to travel into London. Larger national firms I contacted were REME and PSC.

  • Thanks for the details!

Local guy - no response, I'll give him another ring.
    REME - £3,300+VAT
PSC - need to send photographs, but looking at three days of labour with hotels for two/three workmen.

  • I used the Diamcrete guy for my garage on Jambon’s recommendation too and he was great (and the most reasonably priced of the bunch I got quotes off). Responded to email quicker than calls if I remember correctly.

  • I have emailed him, see if that's more suitable - thanks.

  • What’s the hanger/ rail system you have on the wall?

  • Ah nice, glad Martyn worked out for you and you're happy with the job. Looks great from here.

  • Yeah it has transformed the place - so easy to keep clean and actually a nice place to train on the turbo and work on the bikes now. Thanks again for the rec!

  • Due to funemployment progress on the SRAD slowed down but determined to have it ready for summer. Started a new job a few weeks ago so progress should speed up again. Wheels will be getting powder coated and new Bridgestone S22 tyres fitted. Really wanted it ready for the spring, but plan on keeping it for a long time so want to do things properly.

The CRF on the other hand has seen action every weekend pretty much and taken me to places I never knew existed. The brown muddy lanes I was riding through the winter have turned to a lush green and are getting busier. There's a few small mods I'd like to do, but nothing major now I've got knobbly tyres. Have thoroughly enjoyed learning a new discipline of riding that's totally different from 'road work'.

  • Nice. Did Chris sort you out with the tyre change in the end?

Still jealous of the off road adventures.

  • Thanks. Not yet, think I'll attempt to remove the 20yr old Michelins myself then ring him when it comes to fitting tyres on the freshly powder coated rims.

  • You all said changing tyres is an ordeal, and I can confirm it's true. 20 year old stiff rubber and no levers made it hard but fairy liquid and my Record 24 vice got the job done eventually. Rest assured when they're freshly painted I'll be leaving it to the professionals.

  • Work of champions! It’s just not worth the faff to be honest.
Volume of work vs reward is minimal that I’d rather leave it to someone and a machine.

  • Basically just wanted to boast and say I've done it once. Not sure where my local bike garage gets his prices, but was quoting £60 to fit new tyres (off the bike) so that was my motivation.

  • It's only taken 33 years, but turns out some jobs are easy when you have the right tools. Wheel bearings out and rims ready for some powder. Bridgestone S22s on order too.

  • Only £25 on eBay.

  • Looking forward to seeing shiny new wheels. How you getting on with the Halfords tool chests? They're on offer atm with a further discount available on checkout. Currently looking at about £300 for your setup.

  • Should get the wheels back in the next few days and can't wait. Succumbed and bought new bearings even though the old ones looked okay so I know they're as new. Where the bearing puller fell short, the Record 24 vice came to the rescue pushing the larger sprocket carrier bearing out with ease.

Still have lots of space in the tool chest and it's been great. Only thing to mention is mine's a Halfords Industrial one that's been discontinued. The quality of the later Professional chests aren't as sturdy but obviously more available if you need one quickly and can't be arsed to set-up an eBay search and wait months like a lunatic.

  • Ah thanks, that's good to know. Only the regular and advanced on Ebay and it looks like it still fetches a high price and is generally collection only. I think i'l take a punt on the 5 drawer in black which with discount is around £170 and setup a saved search for an industrial set if it doesn't hit the mark.

  • I used to lust after Snap on stuff but these days the Halfords Advanced is brilliant and has a lifetime warranty so can't argue. Koken tools though, have to admit a soft spot for some Japanese goodness.

  • Feels like a momentus moment for the CRF450L owner. +8hp is exciting, and probably unnecessary, but looking forward to a smoother throttle and all the good stuff people harp on about. Very excited for the next ride. It's pretty special under those plastics too, the titanium tank is quite something but can't see it staying with fuel consumption going up. HRC get a thumbs up from me.

  • Ah the cost of fuel, I might invest in a Grom.
