Most likely... irritatingly it was Gibson themselves who shipped it as I purchased it from their European Demo Shop...
More irritatingly the amount it was insured for is only about half of what it would cost to replace it six months on with the increase in values and the fact that I'd gotten such a bloody good deal on it...
Even more irritatingly Gibson Demo Shop wouldn't ship it to Ireland so I had it shipped to my mate in Paris who forwarded it on to me so no way of telling when it was damaged in transit and I don't reckon I'll have any success chasing them up six months on so going to have to hope La Poste dish out the measly insurance claim and I can get it repaired...
I’m guessing it was sent with the strings tensioned. A moderate knock in transit, not necessarily enough to mark the case, can cause the neck (of a Gibson…) to break. It happened to my mate’s SG when the seller posted it to him. This is why you loosen the strings of a Gibson if you’re posting it.
