  • It's where I spend most lunch breaks and then evenings after mini_com goes to bed.

  • I can do precisely fuck all after mini_howard 1 and 2 are in bed. Dealing with the mess and protests just shuts me down.

I need to up my game I think?

  • Stiffened up the short axis of the workbench.

  • 2x4 bought from Wickes, as it's next door to the Asda where we were grocery shopping today. Cut and fitted while mini_com naps, for the timetable nerds.

  • Same on the opposite end, obvs.

  • Planning the deck for out front.

  • You nail the pheasant to it presumably?

  • With a nail gun

  • Added to the clamp collection. Also, I cannot for the life of me get my bandsaw to cut straight, regardless of blade fuckery. So have ordered a new blade.

  • Don’t know if I would trust every one of those to stay in place and not fall on my head at an in opportune time…

  • They've not budged here or in the 4 years in the old shed stored the same way. You might say they're clamped on...

Besides, even if they did, they'd only fall a couple of inches before hitting me.

  • Band saw stand arrived

  • Just humped 10 x 4.8m lengths of 2x6 and 4 x 3m 4x4's from the kerb down to the bottom of the garden. Now sweaty and relieved I didn't take out any car windows or pedestrians. Also received my post hole auger. Project "Deck Porch" begins, soon, ish, maybe.

  • Added an 18mm MDF top to the bench for a bit more flatness and a more sacrificial surface. Also put some castors on the bandsaw stand but realised that a lot of its stiffness comes from having the friction from all four feet on the ground. Two castors don't lock so it's a bit loosey goosey now. Will cut a rectangle of MDF and fit the castors and stand either side of it at some point. Should stiffen it up.

  • I've got one of these under a very heavy steel cabinet which in turn supports my drill press - life saver in my tiny shop.

  • I was looking at one of those in the Axminster sale, and may go for it in future. But #slabofmdf will do for now. Good to know they are useful though, cheers!

  • Marking out for first post. Wrecking bar and post hole digger also acquired, because fuck stones.

  • First post in, went with post saver, two bags of postcrete and some wood preserver for good measure (posts are pressure treated.

  • I used one of those post hole diggers for the first time last week. Went through clay with no trouble. I've wasted so much time and concrete in the past. Worth every penny !

  • Yeah, the second hole went much smoother. Far fewer stones. The wrecking bar made short work of those.

  • There will be two rows of 5 posts each. One along the front, one half way, with the back edge supported by the concrete under the shed.

  • Day 2. Have run out of post savers and wood preserver.
