This is quite a cool reuse of a downtube shifter

True true, but I've had wheels nicked with pitlocks on, so if a thief has enough time......

I've got loads of old downtube shifters in the shed, might actually copy this for a set of keys.

Top work. What tools did you use?

Angle grinder, battery drill and a file.
Bit creaky but did 100km and 2000m climbing today no bother 🙏🏻

I had a nice DA shifter as my key ring for a while. Got a nice ‘patina’ of little dentlets and dings after a while.

We did this fairly regularly in my shop in NYC, and chains around seat rails, and wood gluing in bbs to allen heads.

Last 5 or 6 pages have been lit with top shelf engineering solutions.
That spoke bell ringer job, 1950's british grandad'esque engineering at its finest.

Not a top shelf engineering solution but I bent a bit of bronze brazing rod to stop my brake pads jumping ship when I lost the retaining pin

Little late to the keychain party, but here’s my contribution from an old campa RD:

Not a hack or a bodge per se, but in the interest of putting things in places they aren’t meant to go… I put some Cat Eye orb barend lights in the end of my Yuba Mundo passenger rails. The bike has a rear light connected to the battery, but I wanted something to bring a bit more attention to the bike when my son is on the back, particularly at dusk or gloomy mornings. The lights fit perfectly in the ends. I wrapped some electrical tape around them to make sure they don’t rattle out. I have them flashing.
Please disregard state of garage.

Light all the things - thumbs up!

This is excellent. Was looking for something for the ends of my Omnium rack and looks like these will be perfect. Do they do white ones for the front as well did you see?

Big spaceship vibes.

Any bodgers in here think these could be wired up to a dynamo?
-
• #2421
Yep, if it's converted to DC. Someone on here has done it. And here's one I saw locked up (not converted to DC but will probably still work)

Quite interested in dc dynamo hacks, I still want a blinking/fading/non-static rear light.

I don’t this so because these are designed to be for bar ends, so visible from behind, which is why they’re red only.
EDIT: you could probably buy a two of these Cat Eye orb front lights and buy a set of the rear bar end lights, unscrew them and screw them onto the bar end plug to achieve the same results. It looks like they are the same design, and they unscrew as well to replace the battery. It’d be kind of cool and not overly expensive to do. Let me know if you do it!

Wheel truing stand hasn't arrived yet at the new shop and a guy bought just a wheel in needing a new spoke and a mostly accurate true.

Proper faff to undo it though - they unscrew pretty slowly
