Malta is another under-rated, yet fucking awesome cheap holiday. Tons of history, amazing food, great architecture, friendly locals all crammed onto an island smaller than most counties. It's sister island Gozo is smaller and even more rad.

Off to Morocco tomorrow. Atlas mountains. Family stuff. I promised no mtb. It was a moment of weakness. I may regret it.

I don't regret it. Cycling. Pah. Why?
For a start pretty damn good food eg fab salads, chicken with pickled lemons and olives, caramelised banana tart and lime mousse on lime sorbet. Speaking of food we are baking here. The warm jumpers that each of us packed for when the temperature drops at night time have remained in the suitcase. 105F yesterday. F indeed. And dropping to a barmy 102 today. The pool is our saviour. And AC in the rooms. Night time temps must be cooler but not so's you'd notice. At 5.50 am I was sitting on a flat topped adobe wall skirting the roof. The sky just turning from black to bruised blue over the eastern horizon. Stars fading, dogs barking, cocks crowing, goats shuffling. The sulphur street lights in the village switched off...all at once. I imagine that's someone's job, then he crouches on the dusty roadside and leans against a shady wall until his next task; switching them on again tonight. Saida, the maid in our abode will be in the kitchen soon, preparing breakfast for our tummies still full from a 4 course, delicious meal last night. Somehow, I'm not putting on weight. Or is that image in the mirror a mirage? No booze here, our choice. And somehow it seems respectful to observe local customs. The girls rode camels yesterday. Afterwards we drank mint tea sitting on palm logs covered in Moroccan mats. So I've bought one. Yes I bought a rug in Morocco. Today's task? Figuring out how I get it home! It's a tough life. -

Dredge!
Looking for a week, all inclusive, that isn't completely diabolical.
Previously we have been to Mallorca (terrible, very cheap), Tunisia (great pools, awful food, moderately cheap), Fuerteventura (generally favourable, but long transfers) and Cape Verde (rotten guts when I came back, generally awful there)
These were all in the before times, probably over a 12 year period too, so not recent experiences.Current front runner is Mexico, but has a 145 minute transfer, which is too long after a dozen hours on a plane.
Any suggestions on favourable experiences?
No specific locations in mind, as long as it is sunny, hot and away from work.
books, booze and chilling is the main wants from the holiday, rather than day trips, excursions and activities. -

What is the driver for all-inclusive? Generally, I'd just say go to Provence, hire a stunning airbnb with incredible views, stock the fridge with delicious local wine and food. Relax by the pool with your book?

For all-inclusive surely it doesn't matter where you are? Just pick one that's close, warm and hotel gets good reviews.

pure laziness.
Otherwise it needs to be accessible without vehicle as I cannot drive (and MrsDeth refuses to get on the back of a motorbike)

We have done all inclusive in Barbados, however planning to spend time with GF’s family and friends. I don’t see this as an extra expense, instead a convenient way to holiday. Got picked up at the airport by baby cuz, followed by a delicious home cooked meal we brought duty free champagne for the table (trust me, it’s a black thang) .. we weren’t going to get that kind of welcome from elegant hotels.. planning to hire a car for a couple of days so that we can visit the north side, east side and back country of the island less travelled by tourists.
-Oistins and the Gap = party central
-Between BIMtown and Holetown = white safe and/or exclusive enclaves of all inclusive resorts aka the Ivory Coast waters are calm with many shades of turquoise..
North coast - empty sparsely populated
East Coast - newly established developments, coast is wild, sea is rough Atlantic facing
Back country - rural and basic with a few plantation houses, some now black ownedBack to our resort
loads of free water sports, pools, three meals (buffet mostly) food is okay, better outside the resort, service is ace, drinks are free, beach is clean, water is warm..Liming in the back streets of BIMtown, during the day yesterday seeing Barbados through another lens
the term outside is for real in the night time.. Friday’s can only be Oistins and The Gap.. tourists arrive 6pm gone by 9pm. Locals arrive 9pm leave at 6am
It’s gonna be epic for the simple reason that baby cuz lives for Friday nights..
Morocco. Incredible, you can chill on beautiful beaches with surfing and camels, hike through stunning mountains and then go and trek into the fucking sahara desert. All of that, plus some of the most insane cities on earth (Marrakech, Fez) and incredibly delicious slow-roasted lamb everywhere you look... Plus, its really not that big, so you can go to different places without losing entire days to travelling. And if you want to splash a bit and stay somewhere lovely for a night or two you can stay in some stunning riads for £30ish a night. Otherwise is fantastic for budget travel.
