You’re literally on 39-28t, which is a dang sight impressive (or 34-28 if it’s a 36t cassette and 42t chainring).

Good eye - 42t chainring with a 11-36 cassette.
I only rode fixed/ss for many years so these gears feel pretty wide to me on the road - even with the added weight. Off road is a different story.

Somewhere on the Clyde?

Thanks - good use of an old chainring I had lying around and it puts the light out further forwards so the light spread is better!

Picked this up for $450. Gon’ function it up 😬 all XT everything. All original other than the MKS Gamma pedals which I had to buy to go with the bike. All made in Japan other than the saddle and grips. Sheeeesh. Stoked.

V brakes and modern lever/shifter is all it take.
Embrace the triple! (Having said that, chainring look worn out).

Na, it all works nicely. Remember that it doesn't rain here so the cantis are actually effective. With that said, I will probably buy V brakes because I intend to tow my new trailer with this bike for a while, until I figure out which ebike/ecargo bike to commit to (I am selling my car tomorrow).

early gen ortlieb is cool
I rode Jogle on that setup in September - didn’t walk a hill once.
That picture was from a trip to the Peak District last weekend with a friend riding a 11-46 cassette and I got beat up - lots of walking. Not great for real off road although unloaded mountain bikers were walking parts of that trail. It was fun on the way down at least.
I’m probably going to lower the gearing and get some wider tyres for the next trip. Hitting up South Downs Way in June.
Escapist pannier below.
