It’s a Class Sport. Diameter is about 40mm excl. crown.

Best not get started on date windows ... I don't mind a date but I absolutely detest contrasting date wheels, especially in an otherwise single colour dial. If its a panda dial or similar I can sort of understand it, but a black dial with a white date wheel just grates.
I'd take a miscoloured date wheel over a sideways number not in the same font or style cutting up its neighbours to fit its skinny ass in there. Fuck that.

LoL … other date implementations are available … or indeed no date at all …

This is giving massive Blancpain vibes

I wouldn't mind this, even at 36mm.

Edit: here's a 61GS VFA which fetched £36k at auction! Really? Not a typo? https://www.phillips.com/detail/grand-seiko/CH080121/173
Really. With the buyer’s premium it was closer to 50k. It is a very good example of one - not the rarest VFA (very fine adjusted), but then VFAs in general are rare because they were short lived, co-existing with Seiko’s new quartz tech at the turn of the ‘70s. They were also expensive when new.
Prices of certain rare GS models have skyrocketed in recent years as people have become more aware of the brand and some of the most notable references from its past. People are also looking for the next good value thing to invest in… But prices are also quite volatile because relatively few come to auction, so there isn’t a lot to go on in terms of guide prices.

The one I pictured is on ebay for £225. Would look terrific with the correct bracelet and refinished case https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125287406729?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=k0kMXowVQ5W&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=&widget_ver=artemis&media=EMAIL

How about a contrasting year? This is a one-off platinum sapphire version of the most complicated watch in the world (at the time), commissioned by the Sultan of Brunei. Presumably he wanted it this way.

I think quite a few of these pilot-style chronos have the same roots in the WW2 issued watches with a nod to the post-war French Aeronavale Type 20 specification, including of course the Breguet Type XX; the Zenith Tipo CP2; the issued Lemanias and so on.

Hmm, not for me, especially like that the contrasting numbers just grate.
A good example is the Glashutte Original Sport Evo Pano Date, where the original version had a contrasting big date window, but later versions had a matching black date, the later one is far nicer (and then one I had!)

Still non-working but on the wrist anyway thanks to rally strap from @PawG - I’m loving the size, profile, indices and semi-GMT functionality.. I’m now looking for a movement to swap into it although the originals all seem to fail in the same way (electrical connections) so finding something reliable going to be difficult I imagine.

Going for convenience this week.
I really want a new strap for this but struggling to find anything that meets my criteria (hardwearing, not a bracelet, not rubber, doesn't soak up water).
