You can always swap the 50 for a 46 or so right?

Possibly, don't know what that will do to the shifting though.

34t chainring and 36t rear should be low enough no?

Current cassette is 11-28 (yikes), but there are no hills here. I just want to stay in the big ring mostly, and not be all the way up the cassette. Probably will get a road link, and an 11-34 cassette.

46t ring is great for exactly this. I'm content with the trade off (max pedaling gear).

Yeah, ran 46/30 x 11-28 briefly on my Muddy Fox. It was pretty good (maybe could've used a slightly bigger cassette).
