I was a bit optimistic when choosing a replacement for my old threaded headset, it is a bit too tall for my frame/fork combination.

Can i use it without the lock washer, or will I die?

Does anyone have a suggestion for the torque spec of the handlebar clamp on a traditional style quill stem (single bolt). Both stem and bars are alloy, but no torque spec on either. About 6Nm seems to be the point at which I can’t get the bars to slip (rotate). That’s approx what ahead stems I’ve had have suggested but those are 4 (smaller) bolts rather than 1 bigger bolt. Ta!

Frame alignment is within 1mm. Dropouts aligned. A dished wheel is centred at the chain stays but not at the seat stays for the v brakes. I wonder if filing the DS dropout will give me some leeway but it's a bit of a bodge. Just trying to work out what's going on.

You can get 1" Tange Passage that has a low stack height. Depending on the headset, you can do without the washer if the thread fills the locknut. Some headsets have a recess for the washer between the adjustment race and the locknut. There are plenty of other things things to check with old forks on the dying front.

Nitto Pearl is 14-16Nm. To 26.0mm bars.

Thanks that’s good to know. Sounds like I can afford to go tighter before I run the risk of stripping the bolt or crushing anything (these are 26.0mm bars too)

First time trying to install campag 12 speed groupset and front derailleur has a chain rub.

Front small ring - last two cogs in the back - chain rubbing inner plate
Front big big - smallest 2 cogs in the back - chain rubbing outter plate

Feels like front derailleur doesnt have a amplitude for the whole rear cogs. Is it normal for 12 speed gruppo or am I missing something?

Assuming you've adjusted the limit screws?

Do campag utilize a tension bolt against the frame like Shimano do?

Fork replacement: would a 3 mm difference in fork rake make any significant difference to handling if the axle-to-crown height is identical?

A small difference but most folk would not be able to tell the difference. A change of tyre should make a similar difference.

Rake, axle-to-crown height, whether there’s enough steerer height for the frame, steerer diameter, through axle or skewer, tyre width, brake mounts / drilling, cable clips / routing. Quite a lot to take into account.

Concerning that it’s right where the nipples are. What’s spoke tension like? I’d have them checked out

They're sound, but my guess is that the epoxi has melted or something on those places, curious that it's were the spokes are though, didn't reflect on that. Removed those and put another pair on. Scoblebricking it.

You’d never want to go small/small on the sprockets/rings anyway, but you can trim the front mech by a click to move it away from the chain.

knock-off versions are £10

If I repair my chunky aluminium seatpost collar (proprietary, irreplaceable) with two inserts from the knock-off £10 kit... fiery death? Better to get the proper kit?

There's enough material to handle the drilling, btw. It's a chunky lil boy.

If the helicoil fails I suppose you could instead mount the bolts in reverse and use a pair of nuts behind the backplate?

I have nuts already so could try that! I'd need longer bolts. But would the bolt head behave OK against the angled face?
