  • Wheels and tyres: Pacenti Brevet 650b x Novatec A171/F172 with Panaracer GravelKing in 42c, tubeless.

  • Classy👌

  • Gruppo: Chorus 11, with a Record compact. Tektro CR720 brakes.

  • Finishing kit (saved 96 gram by chopping the seatpost).

  • Headset's in. Think I'm going to call it a day, continue tomorrow.

  • Slow and steady - you can’t do bikes in a rush… just leads to frustration! Appreciating the drip feed of photos :)

Wonderful choice of wheels - I really liked my brevets. Interested to see one of these built up without an all silver finishing kit/groupset.

  • Thanks. Indeed, every LBC I’ve seen so far was built up with silver components. So I thought I’d go in a different direction.

  • 34/50!!

  • Yeah, this is going to be way overgeared. Going to have to buy a bigger cassette, or other cranks. Kinda want to keep these though, so probably the former.

  • Current state (seatpost not at final height). I think black components are going to look pretty good.

  • yeah a larger cassette would be my choice too...

is this replacing the muddy fox in drop bar 650b guise?

  • Yep, that will go back to touring mode; 26", wide range gears, etc. Basically this.

Though I'm contemplating buying some silver Jones bars...

  • Oh yeah, v hot. The black tires tie it all together nicely. Can't wait to see it fully built.

  • Very fun project this one and I appreciate how nicely you laid all the parts down for the pictures.

  • Nice wheels. I have those hubs on my pink bike, they're rather good, considering they're a decent price.
    Liking the progress so far.

  • Thanks! I have to admit it’s pretty fun to do a proper project thread, instead of just posting an image or two of the end result in the CP thread.

  • These wheels were built by The Cycle Clinic, and so far I really like them. Rims look great too, and they're pretty light.

  • Look forward to seeing this fully built. I've been after one of these for a long time, but had no way of getting around the $$$ postage and import fees. Sourced another bike now.

I know it's not the point, but can you weigh it once it's done? it'll probably help me sleep at night.

  • did you buy this because the pathfinder could accommodate bigger 650b tyres?
    subbed.

Yeah, it's not cheap. But it's the only frame that I really wanted, so I went for it. What did you get instead?

Even though this isn't a weight weenie build, I did weigh the parts and kept a spread sheet. Only question mark is the weight of the cables (and grease), but this is set to weigh roughly 9.7 kg.

Pathfinder can fit 650bx42c with guards, or 48c without. This frame roughly the same I think.

I bought this mainly because the Pathfinder is a bit of a slouch. It's great for touring, but when I ride on my friend's Bombora, I feel a noticeable difference. I'm hoping this will ride better than the Pathfinder.

  • looks very good so far.

  • Awesome, subbed!

  • Wow you saved quite some weight on the wheels and tyres

  • Surprisingly light! I am so happy you’re using Campag. Gon look great.
