  • Oh Sees - Few dates around the UK in May
    https://www.seetickets.com/tour/oh-sees

  • Email from see tickets:

THIS SHOW HAS A STRICT NO PHOTO OR VIDEO RECORDING POLICY WHICH INCLUDES PHOTOS TAKEN ON MOBILE PHONES. ANYONE FOUND TAKING PHOTOS OR RECORDING THE SHOW ON ANY DEVICE, INCLUDING A MOBILE PHONE, WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE.

Never had that before. Interesting to see how this is enforced at the O2 arena. Lol

  • Good*. This pisses me off bigtime. Last week at Fontaines DC, I could barely see the stage for the first few songs because of the sea of phones. Seems to have got much worse post-lockdown too. Was this close >< to starting confiscating phones till the end of the night.

Also Grandaddy tonight doing Sophtware Slump at Palladium - very much looking forward to this one.

*but it won't be enforced in any way, so...

  • Who's that for? Reminds me of the days before camera phones when security would be stood at the front constantly telling people to put there cameras away.

  • Tool - May 10th

I'm definitely in favour, just can't see how they can enforce it in such a large venue.

  • The only time I took a photo at a gig was Slayer, 5 or 6 years back, Brixton. Thought I'd take a quick pic of them from the pit against their inverted cross backdrop as they hit the first chord. Snapped and put my phone away and immediately got thumped in the back by a fellow mosher.

A few seconds later, realised my phone was gone, and there were a few other people on their knees in the pit trying to find theirs. Apparently, the pickpocket MO is to hit the pit hard and early, and sweep the phones before anyone gets their bearings. And there is a gang of pickpockets who target Brixton.

Serves me right for taking a photo.

  • I’m looking forward to this..

  • Got tickets for the Manchester Grandaddy gig on Thursday, let us know what you thought please 👍

  • Got two tickets for Primavera.
    Weekend one.
Bought back in the old days but sadly this year, the timing doesn't work with my schedule.
I'm looking for £250 for the pair.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Enjoyed Holy Fuck at Village Underground last night. Almost missed it as didn't set a reminder on my calendar but fortunately the email reminder from Dice served it's purpose.

  • The only not glowing observation I can make is that you could see it hadn't been fully rehearsed as a band living in the same city would have done.

Having said that, I didn't feel it did any harm to the songs and if anything added to a very personable sense of earnestness about the whole thing which I think is at the heart of a lot of it. It was a tribute to the music of Grandaddy and the masterpiece that is the Sophtware Slump at least as much as it was a Grandaddy gig.

So many of the songs were always very "orchestral", just with loft synth arpeggiators and string machine instead of actual musicians, and worked very well.

I loved it and it was further proof I didn't need to confirm Jason Lytle and Grandaddy as one of the best things in music for me as it has been since picking up on them 22 years ago...! Was chatting with the guy sat next to me about how this could be a last hurrah and if it was to be that, it was a great way to go.

  • Grandaddy were amazing last night, but - an opportunity to see what is widely rated as one of the greatest albums of the 90s, with an orchestra, in a great venue (Palladium), by a band who haven't toured in ages - there were a lot of empty seats.

@general_greyharbour - glws, family means I can't take those off your hands, but have had a few brilliant weekends at Primavera.

We had that when we saw Pucifer at the Roundhouse. Security were pretty good with stopping it and used lots of very bright narrow beam torches to ruin filming. I think that is an MJK thing although not watching the show via the smudged phone screen of some rando in front of me does appeal.

We have tickets for both nights - floor seating. Pre-show beverage?

  • Nice. Definitely. We’re on the side, low down somewhere.

  • Was a bit surprised at how many empty seats there were, I remember being close to being close enough to sold out when I had to select my seat upon buying the ticket?

  • I bought as soon as they came out, and had to buy about 12 rows back and to the side. But had a search for news about them, and there was pretty much nothing - no interviews, not much in the way of announcements, not even a re-release of the album. Get the impression they paid for a 12-piece orchestra, but hadn't anything left in the kitty for marketing.

  • Much as I love Jason Lyle and Grandaddy, this just didn’t appeal to me for some reason. Probably just a big too big a venue for me. The last time I saw Jason was at Bush Hall about three years ago, just him and a piano & guitar. It was just about perfect, and if that’s the last time I’ll hear those songs then I don’t think I could have asked for better.

  • @alex_s @kl Thanks for the reviews, looking forward to it now, Manchester gig is a smaller venue to the palladium so may be near to full. Watched him solo a few years ago at a church in Salford, it was one of the most emotional performances I’ve ever witnessed (Helped by the fact I smoked an insanely strong joint with some dude from Liverpool) Huge fan of the Sophtware slump, I’d say it’s my favourite album, so if this is a last hurrah I feel privileged to see it performed live.

  • Sold GNR and Green Day tickets back on Ticketmaster almost immediately.

  • I've just relisted Amyl & the Sniffers tickets* - hope they go swiftly.

*because I'm a fucking moron and accidentally bought tickets for Bristol in stead of Brixton.

  • I'm a bit annoyed that I'm also missing them - they were one of the supports for Green Day

  • There are still tickets for Brixton on 1 June.

  • Thanks. We might be away for the long weekend. Not booked anything yet though so not sure.
