  • Any recommendations for a home photo printer?

Thinking of selling my XF 10-24 to help fund it so have a reasonable budget.

  • Thanks to all who offered thoughts on a compact camera for cycling. I got some backpay at work, and that covered a Panasonic Lumix TZ100, which I am very happy with so far.

  • Back when I needed loads (flash slaves for use underground, lots of them, pretty much full tilt all the time) I would just pick up packs of the Lidl or aldi nimh, this is 2010-15 though, so no idea if the current ones are any good. Number of failures I had were incredibly small, mostly due to being left in a wet bag for weeks/months on end rather than actual failures I think.

  • So I ended up buying Ikea 2400 batteries which so far seem good. On research apparently they are made by panasonic and are eneloops.

  • Morning all - I was wondering if anyone had any tips on carrying a tripod on the bike? I've got a rear rack mount but lashing it down is unstable (and noisy) and carrying it over the shoulder with a strap gets you right in the spine!

  • Pipe insulation foam on your crossbar and tie it to that.

  • Help me find my perfect camera?

I mainly take portraits but some landscape stuff too. Increasingly finding I’m shooting with my iPhone but want to de-screen my life a bit…

Already own an old d700 with nice lenses. Love it but it’s massive.

Tried a Sony x100m7 but hated the fiddly interface.

Sold Rolleiflex/Contax film gear as too costly to use, but Contax G2 had best UI of any camera I’ve ever used so would like something a bit like that. Not wedded to interchangeable lenses but don’t want ultra-wide if fixed.

So. What should I go for?

  • A single lens to use between portraiture and landscape?

  • That’s why I’m tended towards interchangeable lenses. Not serious pro use.

  • Anyone used one of the Peak Designs Capture Camera Clips? Want to have something attached to my rucksack strap when hiking, a strap doesn't really work nicely especially over longer days.

  • And in a similar vein any Fuji users got a recommendation for an all rounder lens? Don't want to carry multiple lenses with me hiking, used to have the 18-55mm kit lens which wasn't amazing but gave a decent range of focal lengths.

  • That’s a loaded question!

I pretty much exclusively use the 50mm f2 WR on my X-T2 as its my preferred focal length (and is an insanely good lens) but it’s considered too long for most people as a walk-about.

The wider f2 primes (23 & 35mm) are equally as optically strong and are more useable for general purpose.

I also have an X100 and really enjoy it's 23mm.

    Tl;dr 23 or 35 primes

  • buy the lens @Turkish is selling

  • Hah - I should have been more specific. I've got the 35mm F2 (50mm equivalent from memory) but wanted a better range of focal lengths without having to carry multiple lenses. Probably asking too much.

  • Just move physically closer or further away :p

  • The capture clips are great. I’d generally combine them with a neck strap though just in case I fumble the camera unclipping it (which I am prone to do because I am clumsy).

  • 16 f2.8, 35 f2 and 50f2 would be a compact trio and probably weigh about the same as a zoom, but you do have to fiddle with changing lenses.

  • And in a similar vein any Fuji users got a recommendation for an all rounder lens? Don't want to carry multiple lenses with me hiking, used to have the 18-55mm kit lens which wasn't amazing but gave a decent range of focal lengths.

If the 18-55mm wasn't good enough, it'll probably take the 16-55 f2.8 to impress but it looks a bit heavy for hiking. Anyway, as the owner of the 16-80 f4 zoom, a x100/23mm, 12mm and 35 f1.4, the answer is to grab a single prime. My zoom is looking very dusty.

...or wait, maybe next year the sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 will be available.

  • Get a used X100 for the price of a lens.

  • ignore me its already sold, apologies

  • Trying to get hold of a black x100v at short notice. Had one in my basket at MPB but deliberated and now it's gone. Anyone spotted any? Any good stock alerts out there? I heard some are due in stock from Tuesday at some places.

  • Got one on ebay, hopefully. Always hate buying stuff there (though not as much as selling it), so crossing fingers it's not a dud.

  • Need emergency fund due to cat teaching us what it like to be in an American hospital.

Ricoh GRIIIX, the new 40mm version, only brought it over a month ago, got a filter to protect lens (brilliant on my GRIII.

    Asking £650, can post.

  • Always thought if I could get a GR with an optical VF they could be perfect.

    GLWS!

  • It’s surprisingly capable, I stick to my 28mm as it’s older and doesn’t net a better resale value.
