no idea who Jeff Lynn and Tom Petty are
You have just moved to the ignorant end of the spectrum
-

Christ! I'm old, or maybe our parents just listened to different stuff.

What if I'd heard of the Wilburys but didn't know who Jeff Lynne was, but do know ELO? Where do I fit on the cool spectrum?
Does my uncle breaking his hand while watching Hendrix and high as fuck on acid get me any extra cool points?

Nowt to do with cool, just the ignorance scale.
You don't get bonus points for your uncle's misadventure whilst off his tits on acid, he does though. -

I'm perfectly willing to hold up my hands and confess to being a pop culture moron. On the plus side, I get to discover a load of awesome music on the regular as I learn these things.

You will know a bunch of their songs
I agree. I'm just not good with band names and artists. If its played on the radio or in films, I'll probably recognise a bunch.

Listen to the individual artists. Albeit I’m not a fan of Roy O or the Wilburys, the rest are great artists. Jeff Lynne is an amazing musician - there is a documentary about him which is incredible, he’s a man of amazing talents.

I only know ELO because Giger made a cover painting for them.
Edit: it was actually ELP 😀

Just came across this banging track called Wonderwall by Oasis. You lot heard of it?
-
• #94811
Can't say I have ever heard of the Travelling Wilburys, Jeff Lynne, or the noise of Tom Petty (but the name rang a bell)
Having now listened to some TW, I can confirm age =/= old fart, but releasing old fart music would certainly make people assume you are old farts.
(will need to listen to some Iron Reagan to offset the algorithm on Spotify)

It was almost impossible to get the music for a while as George Harrison was blocking it.
Probably the greatest super group of all time imo, that much talent in one room!
Yep. I’m old.

God I love Tom Petty. What a dude.

and the rest of 'em obvs.

Do you know Procol Harum?
That's what my dad listened to, if not, they have a lot of awesome songs. Some very "it's the 70s so both the musical skill, Hammon Organ use and drug use are off the scale, lay off the weed" :p
You must know Whiter Shade Of Pale cos that's one that's been used a lot.
Oh and Alan Parson's project, synth pop but very good. Turn of a Friendly Card / Games people play.
Scott Walker is also great. Ok end of info dump :)

fuck OFF I did not need that

I heard someone on the radio refer to one of their songs as "an old classic" the other day and my brain couldn't process it
-
• #94822
You lot are all well old
-
• #94823
Is that their cover of the classic Mike Flowers Pops single?
If so, it’s a banging tune, I’m not surprised they did a cover version.

I expressed surprise that a colleague had never heard of NWA, she turned around looked right at me and said “James you do realise I was born in 1992 don’t you?”.
