  • In terms of braking power, I rate old-school shimano low-profile cantis from the DX or XT series like these. Once they’re set up properly, they work pretty well when combined with kool stop eagle pads. Never had any problems with them and felt safe descending with them on a loaded tourer in the Pyrenees. Smooth post cantilever brakes can be VERY frustrating to set up but they offer more adjustability than threaded post cantis. I’m not a big fan of tektro CR 720s tbh.
