  • Back when Churchill was in power, and for some time afterwards, the British public had a much more realistic picture of him. If you ever see one of the endless replays of "The World at War" on history channels, you can get a glimpse of that when they talk to ordinary Britishers about their experiences - not much trust and only grudging respect for Churchill shown there. The myth making has mostly been done by younger generations. Even the King's fucking Speech had him showing up to add some gloss to the film, despite the fact that George VI at that point absolutely despised the man and wouldn't have let him near. So it goes.
