They’ve been in some sort of weird stasis between the Schengen area and this stupid Brexit island since Tuesday.

That works both ways, I sent something to NL and it sat for a fortnight in NL customs. It's because of Brexit, but not because of Brexiteers. The stupidity of the treaties is all on the EU side, partly because it is an inherently protectionist organisation but mostly because they wanted maximum inconvenience as a warning to any other populace contemplating secession. Of course, GB could unilaterally liberalise imports even while the EU is punishing its own citizens, but they are too stupid to see the benefit.

Being in the EU customs union and being in the EU is a distinction without a difference, certainly as far as the terms offered by the EU to GB are concerned.
