  • Re-issues are certainly the way to buy Blue Note, 'cos lol at buying some of the 1st or 2nd pressings now.

Away from Blue Note (and Prestige, Riverside etc) though there's still some really nice 50s/60s pressings you can pick up for less than the price of some re-issues.

  • The latest ones tick all the boxes and they do seem to have fixed the pressing quality now. There was some talk about problems with the tape machine at the mastering stage with early reissues in the series. Although they have been mastered by Kevin Gray who is around the top of the game at the moment.

Quality wise they are a little bit lower quality than speakers corner but they have some of the biggest albums and speakers corner don't get a look in on the really good stuff. It's close on quality but they must have wanted to make a little more money.

  • I've bought Blue Note classic series re-issues as well as some Tone Poet series. I've also bought

    Music Matters Jazz
    Analogue Productions / Acoustic Sounds
    Speaker's Corner
    Simply Vinyl

I don't bother with 45 rpms. I cba to get up every 10 minutes to flip the record, two discs per LP takes up space, they cost too much and I'm not convinced the SQ is much better than well pressed 33 rpms.

I don't buy Music Matters anymore. They are too expensive, and I received one disc which was damaged, and I cba to send stuff back to 'murica.

A while back, Blue Note classics were fairly hit and miss. I had a few duds. More recently, they have been ok. The Tone Poets I have bought have been fine.

Analogue Productions / Acoustic sounds have been the most consistently good in my experience. QRP and Kevin Gray mastering seems to be a recipe for success; I've not had a dud disc from them. They are pricey but I'd say reasonable value for the quality.

Speaker's Corner I've also found fine, maybe not quite to the standards of AP, but consistently good.

    Just my experience.
