  • anyone changed out a wahoo elemnt battery? as a computer it has never let me down so i resent buying a completely new one. but the battery lasts max 4 hours in the cold now

  • You may know this already

I didnt know! Thanks for the tip

  • Just a quick PSA that someone has finally finally made a good, non-3D-printed, Etrex to quarter turn adapter that’s available for not much money in the UK. Combined with a top cap mount it makes for a super neat setup.

  • That's convenient timing. I broke my 3d printed one the other week.

  • Hm I tend to find my etrex touch 35 wants to launch itself out of those mounts. I literally have to cable tie it to the stem.

That and its tendency to just freeze on the map screen (you can unfreeze it by changing zoom level) or just switch off at random is getting on my wick.

  • They're not the Garmin mounts so I'm hoping they're a bit less launchy (I've just bought a couple). If they are as loose as the Garmin ones I'll add some tape on the back or perhaps drill the mount and run a ziptie or something through it to the lanyard hole so it can't move far.

  • Put a bit of tape on the miunt to make the tolerance tighter. And yes I still strap mine on via a leash.

  • The original eTrex mounts screwed into the back of the case so were pretty secure but I bought my old eTrex about 15 years ago so probably it's all changed.

  • How do eTrex units handle ant+ sensors? I'd still like to connect my speed and HR sensor for any time I use it on the bike but I'm considering getting an eTrex 22 as a device for hiking

  • Yeah, I used to have a Vista HCx and the bike mount was a whole replacement back panel. The stock Garmin slide mounts for these were also shit though.

  • I've tried that but it hasn't been foolproof. I have a cable tie I keep on the stem which I can use to hold it down and I also have a lanyard as a fallback. I've needed both on more than one occasion. Ugly as sin but it works, at least until the fecking thing freezes or powers itself off.

  • anyone interested in a wahoo elemnt? i have had it for ~4 years now and it has never missed a beat or crashed! unfortunately due to its age i have noticed that the battery isn't great anymore. if it is cold out it lasts 4-5 hours. there are guides on youtube on how to replace the battery but i can't trust myself to do it so would rather someone else has a go..... is £40 cool? seems like £100 is going rate for a decent looking one on ebay

  • These arrived and definitely seem better than the stock Garmin slider mounts. Good quarter-turn click too. Why Garmin couldn't get it right in the first place is a bit beyond me.

  • Agreed, the quality seem bang on and at least a bit better than stock. Will give it some more abuse and see if my words come back to bite me, but for now well pleased.

  • I could be interested. I’ll pm you.

  • Id complain to garmin. I had a mount that was shit, but bough another OEM and its perfect. Maybe a bad batch?

Those touch ones tear though battery and the screen shots itself in the rain, like all others. I ditched mine after one use

  • Yes they do. Just not pwer.

You can check devices on ant+ website.

  • I cracked the screen on it ages ago and just sent it back to Garmin for a replacement so I'll see if the replacement fits more snugly.
I blame my refusal to engage with the trend for wider lower pressure tyres tbh

  • Question for those with a wahoo Bolt v2 (or Roam as presume display options are similar).
Is there an option to have just the map on screen, with no speed/distance etc metrics?
Reason being is that I want navigation but don’t always want to be reminded how fast (slow) I’m going or how far I’ve been/got to go.

  • Yep, if you remove all the data fields on the settings page it just shows the map.

  • Just submitted a support request for my Garmin Forerunner 945 which has an ageing battery that only lasts for 3 days (instead of 2 weeks) with no activity use.

We'll see what they say, ideally they'll do a replacement for £100 or so, which isn't too bad for a watch coming up to 24 months old.

  • Woo. They're replacing it for free.

  • wahoo bolt question

it doesn't seem to have a "shut up for a while / sleep" option.

if for e.g. you want to ride somewhere, park the bike, wander around on foot for a while, then ride home again without recording it as two separate rides.

yes, i can press pause but then it just keeps beeping whilst in my pocket.

    any solution?

  • Turn off the beeps. I turned them off the day I got mine, works s charm.

  • good call - the beeping is annoying
