  • That's a good shout ( I have Halos on the LOOK and they're very decent hubs). Would that give a 53mm chainline with a Velosolo sprocket?
Edit: actually the 142 endcaps are for 15mm axles, a shim/reducer would still be required?

  • the 142 endcaps are for 15mm axles, a shim/reducer would still be required?

Yes, if your through axle is 12mm you'll need a sleeve, but that's much the simplest part to make. There's plenty of 15mm OD 12mm ID stainless steel tube on ebay

  • Just want to be clear here - to get the required depth, I assemble my headset without the stupid 15mm spacer and preload the bolts and then measure the distance from the top of the compression ring to the top of the head tube?

  • Found some indeed, international postage is ridiculous but it should be able to find some locally.

  • Bear in mind that it won't be precisely sized, "15mm" nominal stock usually needs reducing a bit to go through a 15mm hub bore. Given that it's just a rough shim, you should be able to do that at home

  • Undoes top cap, undoes stem bolt, removes conical spacer to measure with callipers. Discovers there already a bearing cover hiding underneath 🙄.

  • Yeah, that's a thing, some CAADs have it too. Mine are still a couple of mm lower than that (and a bit lighter), but you have to be desperate to need the small difference.

  • Free bump - have you got a 47x4 available?

  • Yes, all the sizes are in stock

  • Can I order a 47x3?

  • Yes, as long as you're not under sanction by the UK government 🙂

  • @gbj_tester

Please may I order one in 46x4? Payment?

  • @gbj_tester have you got 47x2 in stock?

  • Only about a dozen, so you'll be OK as long as you're not lowering a whole team :)

  • Thanks. No, just me. I’ll drop you a PM.

  • Do you have stock of whatever fits on top of a Reilly Chrono headset? It's xx44 (?).

  • I have a kinda fit for ZS44 uppers, see https://www.grafixbyjorj.co.uk/

  • Hi @gbj_tester would it be possible to order a 45mmx4mm cap please? I measure my dolan df3 as having 45 dia and 5mm depth so that seems to fit the requirements, but very happy to be corrected haha

  • 46*4mm on my fiancee's Chinarello.

Lovely thing for £11 although the edges aren't half sharp, I nearly lost a finger when I was pulling it off the steerer after a test-fit...

It shouldn't be tight unless your steerer is oversized 😁

  • Yeah, I don't imagine the QC is very good on that frame.... (although it has lasted seven years and counting)

  • it has lasted seven years

It's all that extra carbon 🙂

I should probably add another tenth to the bore to allow for Chinesium tolerancing, the spacers and top caps are already 28.8 but the covers are 28.7 (1⅛"=28.575)

  • Hi @gbj_tester, I've got one of your bearing covers that I got ages ago, and I've just tried it on my Trek Checkpoint to replace one of those giant FSA conical covers - it works ok but there is a gap of around 2mm from the cover to the frame where the bearing is exposed. Do you have a cover with a lip that will close that gap a bit, I guesss 1mm to leave a bit of leeway from the edge to the frame?
