thanks, is that it ? i have the rotor tool but due to this stupid protruding spider it doesn't engage in the holes, so have to find a hack

I've been offered a set of Favero Electronics pedals.
Any thoughts on these e. g. Pros and cons?
I don't have any sort of power meter at the present so this is all new to me although I understand what power is all about

They are very neat. Don't see anyone having problems with these. I never experienced odd power readings or any other problems so far. Easy to swap between bikes too.

sounds like a recommendation, cheers

so
As a dad:
I ride on the turbo a lot, it has its own power reading
Now I have a PM which I will use for power reading on turbo
I occasionally ride outside, I have no goals (race or anything)
I know my numbers on turbo for 1, 5, 10, 20 mins, when I ride outside what fields should I set on Wahoo to be able to 'ride within myself' and then attack the person I am riding with on Corkscrew hill? -
• #10082
Confused - are you asking what fields to display on wahoo or which zones you should be riding in to achieve your goal?
-
• #10083
ha! sorry.
Yes but the only goal is to ride within myself lol. Basically I have been going 'slow' and with PM mmmmmmmaybe I could go a little above 13mph knowing my fuel tank better.

Think you can set your Wahoo to beep at you and flash lights if you go above a certain power zone, that might be useful
Or, ride below threshold (if you know your numbers) then smash it whenever you want -

Avg 3 second power
Then judge your effort against your 1m and 5m power values, and how long the effort will be, taking into account those are often obtained from all out efforts without much fatigue, you'll very rarely ever be able to just smash out your 1m power value for 1m in the middle of a ride.

I normally use 3s or 10s power when racing TTs and NP for trying to beat my overall power PB for the race distance. But if you're racing someone you just need to cross the line first and staring at your powermeter isn't conducive to beating someone up a short climb.

"Short" climb and Froome is staring at his stem, he doesn't actually have power data displayed.

Here are my main screens for road (Garmin obvs, but am sure wahoo has the same).
First is standard display, second is laps for training rides/efforts, third is in depth

attack the person I am riding with on Corkscrew hill?
Oh god.

Favero pedals seem cool, they’ve just emailed me and asked if I wanted to extend my warranty for another year for €49

I think the actual answer to your question is:
- Take your 20 min power
- Multiply it by 0.95 to get your theoretical 1 hour FTP
- Show % FTP on your computer screen, 10s average rather than actual, to smooth it a bit
- Don't go over about 80% -85% depending on length of ride until the rugby club
- Take your 20 min power
-

How long is this climb? Why would you be staying under your FTP for something that lasts a fraction of an hour? This is a London climb right? You should be riding it at 2xFTP maybe with bits at 3xFTP

"what fields should I set on Wahoo to be able to 'ride within myself' and then attack the person I am riding with on Corkscrew hill?"
Exactly what I said then. 3 or 10s power to keep any spikes low. The ride out is of no concern - you either keep up with the person you are competing with or you don't so FTP is irrelevant and the climb, as I said just above, is also too short for FTP to have any bearing on results.
Are the two people not riding out together? If it's a long, self-paced ride out then FTP may have an impact but then you would be riding WAAAY below threshold to save energy for the explosive climb so oh look FTP irrelevant again. Unless @amey is the pace-setter for the ride out, which we don't know, FTP% is irrelevant.

If it's this one: https://www.strava.com/segments/956701?hl=en-GB
320m long. Climbs 26m. KOM is 28s, QOM is 42s.
320m / 13mph =~ 55 seconds
So I'd aim to keep your 3 sec power avg somewhere just below your 1min power best, and try to swallow the sick once you reach the top.

Yeah, as I said, short climb so FTP will have little bearing on result. Performance at VO2max and above would be better indicator and looking at your FTP on a headunit is more likely to lose you time than help with any kind of pacing.

Just fucking sprint up it, and keep going until you crest it.

That's kinda my point. You've just phrased it much more like I would normally phrase it. I've clearly been writing too many bullshit bingo business emails.
The spider is standard, it's the lockring that isn't. Remove the lockring, replace it with a standard one, job done.
