  • It’s a Nitto Mark’s front rack attached with a seat post collar and p-clamps, that I zip tied a front fender under. It’s supposed to support a Swift saddle bag.

  • Storage! I need to order a bigger drybag to hold the bigger tent we got for Scotland in winter. Can you say "fools errand"...

  • we just got this one: https://www.backcountry.com/big-agnes-tiger-wall-ul3-bikepack-tent-3-person-3-season?s
as the only bike packing I'll be doing for a while is with the 14 year old boy. Gonna do some trips with the little ones this Spring, but they'll be BBs.

  • We took a used BA Fly Creek UL2 to Scotland in October. It was superlight and worked well but if we're going in winter, we want more space so that we can change clothes and cook under cover in bad weather (the Fly Creek had barely any cover apart from the sleep space).

  • And well I just bought another Sid!
SID SL Ultimate With the Specialized Brain thing.

Chisel is built around a 100mm fork, so it’ll be closer to spec then the 120 Reba. Less down country then what I’m running now.

  • I'm jealous of your black one.

Yes, fork colour is the only thing that differentiates them at the moment. Give me twenty years and I'm sure I'll have an opinion on rebound or stiction or something.

  • Had a pretty tall beach come down recently, blocking off a Little Rock roll and a quick switch back climb. Think I’ll build a skinny out of it.

  • Ok here it is cut down to 35’ (10.5m) and bucked of branches.

  • looking forward to seeing this progress

  • It’s going to be a long process, as I’m going to be doing it on my lonesome.

  • So I built two rock platforms to get the log off the ground (it’s really wet here). I’ve yet to figure out exactly how I’m going to move it over, definitely too heavy to move by myself. Probably will rig up a hoist out of some saw horses and ratchet straps. I’ll then lag the log into place with some 2x4 legs.

  • There’s about a dozen foot of drop between the stone platforms are. So roughly a 22* slope, should be fun.

  • This will be great. When you first mentioned making it a skinny I was thinking you were going to cut the trunk in half - I was curious how you would do it!

  • I've split logs for making smaller skinnies, but to do it easy you'll need a straight log free of too many knots. I have a milling attachment for my chainsaw but it's a bit of a pain.

I'll usually use wedges and a maul to split straight logs, I'll try to grab some pics later of a bridge I made by splitting a 7 foot log.

also a 4 to 6 inch wide skinny is ok at ground level, but definitely want to to add some width the higher you go. I think Whistler says something about 2" wider for every foot higher? This fella shouldn't be more then 3 feet off the ground at any point, but to keep it safe and friendly I think 16" should be fine. And the best price per foot of 2x4 seems to be 96" so that should give me 6 planks per board.

  • so it's -2 with 16 inches of snow forecasted (it was supposedly going to be 3" two days ago...)
Thinking back to warmer days of silly spills on slick rocks.

  • First ride on the new stumpy.
May need shorter cranks, getting A LOT of pedal strike.

    Is this why?

Have you tried it with the wheels perpendicular to this style?

  • (sarcasm might be the lowest form of wit, but it's still wit) :D

  • you do realize that the bike is upright and that is an ice wall right?

  • Love how the journey went from rigid mtb to a bike with 200% more suspension.

  • I approve of the direction of travel.
