Answer to my stupid question found in earlier comments 😂 - yes an external kitchen extract is worth the hassle

Just out of curiosity, we are having extention / kitchen at the moment. We looked at hobs that had extraction at the side or in the middle at worktop level.
Do they vent outside?

After 6 months, I think we just got the kitchen dialled nicely, just waiting for a larder to fit in the old fireplace.

Just don’t leave those steel pans wet on the worktop…

Looking good.
Although I'm pretty sure the manufacturer of those ovens roasts a poussin in each one as part of the quality control checks.

Is this taking the piss in regard to permitted development and 'No part of the extension to be higher than the highest part of the existing roof'
They've raised the original roofline to the height of the party walls (which also increased the steepness of the road facing roof)

Yes.
Whilst I can't see a problem with it per se, IMO it breaks the rules.

Cheeky AF - yet another PD rights atrocity

'No part of the extension to be higher than the highest part of the existing roof'
They should be forced to tear that down on the grounds that the walls aren't part of the roof.
IANAL (or an architect)

Lol where is that?

Is it just perspective or does each end taper differently like the roof pitch is kinda skewed?

Flat roof dormer?
Whoops, wrong reply. This was @Tenderloin

Edit: looking at that^, it looks like they've even built up the party wall so they could go even higher

Live nearby? I'd complain. Just because.
Did the fuck with the party walls as well? Looks like they were built up to match the now-complete-bullshit roof pitch.

Unless they're planning to do their roof next....

Looks great Ed, good work!

It is very much taking the piss, especially with those firewalls. And it’s breaking the rules.
But I’ve seen worse. And in this day and age of (apparently) limited housing supply, is it really that much of a problem? Should we be discouraging people from slightly enlarging their homes albeit in a slightly cheeky way?
It’s not like it’s on top of an extraordinary architectural delight or some rural fantasy. -
• #2924
Well, yes - they can sit around and wait to see if there is enforcement but it’s a long wait.
All the whilst their home is blighted by it.

I think it is a problem. It makes no practical difference to the square footage of their place - it just raises the ceiling height in the loft extension which is mostly an aesthetic improvement but only internally. Everyone else has to look at it.
Unless they stuffed it insulation but probably not.
