  • Explorer suits your wrist size better imo. Also, that green will be out of fashion in a decade, the explorer is forever.

  • Friend of mine walked into an AD and bought an Explorer at list - is this A Thing That Happens, or is that blind luck on his part?

  • I was told it can happen when people whose watches come in don’t respond to the AD trying to contact them to collect. They go in the case and get sold within half an hour. Definitely lucky, especially these days, but it does happen apparently.

  • It’s a tricky one to explain, I totally get what they’re going for with the new 36 Explorer, trying to make it a bit more vintage, but IRL it made the watch head look weirdly blobby, especially the bezel. Throws all the proportions out, suddenly it looks too thick as well, etc.

Though I am conscious that I am going to notice all the little differences from my OP because I’m so used to that watch.

  • Does anyone know a good place to buy the forum favorite Citizen promaster tough ray mears? Preferably an eu webshop

  • Can’t believe I’m saying this but yeah, preferred Explorer 39 to this 36. The old 36 is the best iteration IMO.

    Edit: as in 14270 > 114270 > 214270

  • Wanted to try and do a side by side comparison of the Explorer’s but as I left mine at the parent in laws house no can do.

  • That’s definitely lucky - though what I would say is there seems to be a little more confidence in getting hold of the more sought after watches. 2020 I was told very, very unlikely to be able to get a sub, now that has changed to possibly this year 😂

  • disagree, I already feel the numerals on the modern explorer are somewhat dated, what is it, Eurostile?

  • Keeping on topic, picked up this from Ed at the weekend. The closest I’ll get to the actual best Explorer ref.

  • Very nice, I’ll be moving on my 36mm Smiths gilt version shortly… was holding back so as not to scupper Ed’s sales.

  • I think Italy might be your only non-UK hope for the BN0118. Watchshop.it shows it at full RRP.

  • Back in 2019 my mate walked in to a Goldsmiths in Bristol and bought a sub for retail. No history of buying watches, had bought a pair of earrings and a chain from there within the last few years. Got added to the list for a sub date in Dec 2021, picked it up 2 weeks ago. Im not sure all the hearsay about Rolex is strictly true, unless he has just been extremely lucky in both cases.

  • Even one previous purchase is a decent foot in the door from what I’ve heard.

  • Think location can also be a factor

  • Got a spare £30k?

  • As gold Speedmasters go, that’s not completely terrible.

  • What does the Tachymeter say

  • 97 Omega special editions per year

  • oof where..??

I've been on the list for the 36mm explorer since NY

Unexpectedly, I quite like this. Not the fauxtina sandwich dial black one (that's just weird and bad) but I'm into the flat burgundy & black one. Nice size, interesting manual wound column wheel movement with a date, and the bracelet looks really good. Not remotely vintage correct but a nice take on a modern Speedy.

  • I saw a Sub on display at the Rolex concession in Selfridges a few years ago. But it was gold, and I didn't have 30 grand to spare. I was wearing my fake gold Sub that day but I'd put it in my pocket. It just seemed very bad manners to wear it in front of the staff.

One of them asked me if I needed any help, so I whispered that it was a waste of her time talking to me because I could only afford the fake in my pocket. She was very chatty and told me about the customers who come in wearing a fake which isn't even a copy of an existing Rolex model and then insist it's real and the staff are lying. She was saving up for a bimetal Datejust. The staff could have some of their salary held back every month and buy at a discount. She had a year to go.

Then she asked if she could have a look at my fake. She was shocked by how good it was. To my amazement she held it next to the one on display. There was a long silence. I wanted to console her by pointing out what a terrible copy my fake was, but it looked too good. The gold coating looked perfect. Then I noticed that the big circular hour markers on the fake were too big. You could see that very easily. Phew.

  • Agree on all counts. Into that green. But, not sure I like a broad arrow and a dauphine hand with the alpha's on the sub dials. Too many shapes!
