And this:
38s are so nice to ride? Feels good to have an actual gravel bike again, fist time since I sold the Raleigh over a year or more ago. Monster cross or sscx is nice and novel, wide tyre road is doable, but a nice 38 just buzzing along? It’ll never be beaten
There is something very comforting about this thread; after all the different bikes and iterations we end up at a rim braked cross check with downtube shifters. We’re home.

Just what is it that makes
today's homesrim braked cross checks with downtube shifters so different, so appealing? -

I have only just seen that brake lever position and now I can't unsee it. Why so low? It's like a midschool BMX.

clearly the bike is too short for our dear MAj. Very over the front end like a fixie.

How do you reach the levers if you are sitting upright?
Lower I went with the lever the more it pushed me over the bar. Also felt it increased the risk of me rolling my hand off the bar. Its up to you but I would try and roll them back a bit to see if you think they are more comfortable if you haven't already. Yoann Barelli did a good video about why he runs his like he does (pretty much parallel to the ground) in terms of supporting the palm (not the balls video ha). -

i will give this a roll when i get over the fear of retightening the clamp on carbon bars
-
• #2090
I'd say that's a healthy fear to have
-

Yeah I hear you. I don't do Carbon bars, I try to avoid it as much as possible everywhere really.
Start higher then you think then work down would be my advice. -
• #2092
Carbon bars are like Ikea furniture, you tighten until you hear a v tiny cracking then you know the bolt is secure and you move on to the next one
-
• #2093
The main benefit there being that you know where your carbon bars will break
If not when

Met with @Thrasher , discussed Elden ring and the joys of rubbing disc brakes
On the way back met a nice woman on a retro mtb, complimented the immaculate and well fitted bike at the lights to which they told me
“Thank you it’s v special!!!”
It looked it, if you’re reading this you looked very cool riding it, great outfit.

Do a grid pic of what you fit inside the RAL frame bag, that would be some good Content

Other good content ideas:
- Video of you trying to remove your KK from its voile bondage straps whilst on the move
- "Buyer's guide" to Surly rim brake bikes, pros/cons of pacer vs crosscheck vs steamroller (image thumbnail overlaid with ???? and confused face)
- Defending your rear light placement.
Already plumbing the "His FIRST ride!!" partner style content which is good, can always potentially branch out into "Boyfriend chooses my braking system" type things when the time comes.
