Some silicone sealants are more gluey than others. I've had great success with Gorilla sealant. You can get it in a fairly small size and it keeps very well after you've opened it. I've used it for china mending. But there are some plastics which are extraordinarily difficult to glue.
Have you got a hot melt glue gun? The standard glue sticks might not work but there is quite a range of industrial glue sticks available from specialist suppliers.

Anyone good at maths?
I saw a (presumably accurate) factoid that, if you shrank the distance between the Earth and the Sun (148mm km) to the width of a penny, the distance to the next nearest star, Alpha Centauri (4.2465 light years away) would be 10 miles.
At this scale, how far away would the next nearest galaxy, Canis Major Dwarf (25k light years away), be?
-
• #111684
10 miles = 4.2465 light years
1 mile = 0.42465 light years
25 light years / 0.42465 = 58.872012245378 miles -

25000/4.25 * 10 = 59,000 miles, give or take.

I heard another similar factoid that if the nucleus of a hydrogen atom was the size of a full stop printed in a paperback, then it’s single electron would be knocking about some 100 meters away

Is Wiggle+ total bollocks?
I recently paid for it as I needed an order quickly. It's supposed to come with a year of overnight shipping included.
Just tried to use it and the overnight shipping option is not available. But it would be if I paid more money. The same money I'd pay if I hadn't bought Wiggle+.
This is a scam or I'm missing something...
edit: postage options now available, but an ominous amount (as in, more than zero) of people have previously suggested this might be a bit of a dodgy scheme on other forums

I signed up when I wanted something quickly. The order arrived next day.
Order #2 a few weeks later did not arrive next day. I complained and they gave me a £5 credit. I haven't placed order #3 yet but I just had a look and the bib shorts I sort of want would apparently be here tomorrow if I order in the next 90 minutes. Seems okay to me.

• #111691
I think the last time I used it there was a minimum order of £20 before the free next day shipping kicked in.
-
• #111692
Yeah, I was over the minimum order value so it doesn't make sense. Order is in now though so that's that. Thanks both

Wiggle+ gets confused if you aren’t signed in before you go to your basket

• #111694
Oh, that makes sense. Good to know, if strange

are there any 144 BCD cranks that officially work with UN55 BB?
-
• #111696
Sturmey Archer and Factory Five offer a 144 BCD crankset with JIS square taper.

Track cranks? Andel ones.

There is a minimum spend before you get the free next day delivery.
Plus for me it’s useless as they use myherpes who routinely fuck up and deliver days late. But it means I have had enough compensation credits to make my wiggle+ membership an inverse cost!

• #111699
Cheers, I was over the minimum order threshold so it seems to have been a one-off issue, or caused by logging in after the items were added to my cart or something. In any case, it has now arrived, hurrah! Hermes aren't too bad in Edinburgh (most people live in nominally-identical tenement flats so couriers are familiar with how to get access and find doors etc)

That sounds great, I'll shoot you a message and we'll figure it out!
Yeah I was thinking some sort of grab adhesive.
I don't really want to use anything that trashes the grill if I need to undo it / it doesn't work.
That wickea stuff looks like the 'sticks like sh*t' stuff I was considering.
@JurekB thanks for the suggestion
