  • Did this guy have a hoodie on, hood up, with headphones over the top?

  • Not this time, but he definitely looked the type - after the epic death-defying 4 rep bench session he had a good look in the mirror for a bit.

No drama this morning - gym was quiet, keep hoping to see the guy who looks like 90's Danzig & does 160+kg front squats again but no such luck, gyms need more characters like this.

  • I did legs today. I’m surprised I managed to walk out and then drive my legs were like jelly.

My squat game is a bit pathetic managed the 5x5 with 55kg on a bar.

Using the different squat machines is helping though.

My wife says it’s because I’ve got long legs. Seems like a solid excuse to me.

  • I’ve been doing squats and split squats with kettlebells for the past 8 weeks as I took a break from the gym over Christmas/Omicron. Went back on Sunday and stupidly tried to pick up where I left off in terms of load. Felt fine until finishing up split squats. Legs burning, walking home like John Wayne, etc.

Two days later and legs still very sore – this is not DOMS, which I know the feeling of and can manage. It was instant and feels strained. I did an hour of Z1 yesterday to see if spinning legs felt good – it did. Did an hour of z2 this morning, which felt good, too.

It’s 48 hours later and stairs are still a chore. I’d say it’s improved 20%. Should I rest up completely or is spinning the legs in z1/z2 helping recovery?

  • I know I’m going to ache tomorrow. I can feel it. It’s everyday things that hurt the most, stairs, getting up and down on the toilet.

  • walk out and then drive

Yo, is anyone on this forum into riding bicycles? I am thinking of starting a thread about cycling on here, just wondering if there is any interest.

  • It'll never catch on.

  • Cycling is so noughties

  • I feel ill crash too much... Sounds dangerous, esp in London.

  • sometimes when I hit legs / squats hard-ish after a break they continue to be sore for up to a week afterwards in various forms. As long as you haven't actually properly damaged anything (always hard to tell, but I think if you've been doing stuff for a while you can tell the difference), I find still doing stuff helps with the recovery. YMMV but I'd say probs say go with some movement if it feels good.

  • If you interested in doing different movements this guy is awesome.

  • I really want one of these in rthe garden now:

    csb time

one year as a teenager I was sat in my nans a few weeks into the new year when i spotted a christmas competition scratch off card from the mirror that had fallen down the side of the sofa. the type where you get the card and then they tell you to scratch off certain numbers each day and you collect the symbols underneath to win the prize.

I picked it up and scanned it over and realised she'd actually won a state of the art multi-gym like that worth 000's and hadn't noticed. excitedly i showed the family and was told I could claim it as they'd have no need for it, at the time i was a bit chubby but also played about 3 hours of basketball most days and desperately wanted to improve my vertical jump/overall strength so this was incredible news. we had a concrete slab for parking a car at the end of our garden that we didnt use right next to my basketball hoop so it would have been perfect for me and my friends to work out on.

so i looked over the terms and conditions to figure out how to claim only to find the competition claim expiry date was genuinely the day before. fucks sake

  • Thanks. I don’t think it’s proper damage so I have continued with an hour of z2 in the mornings and I think it’s improving. It’s just I have Superhans echoing in the back of my mind saying “If it feels good, do it.” Which is not reassuring.

  • What’s z2?

  • I used to get this all the time when I gymmed, used to find it a real pain trying to slot it in around running and riding

  • If it's tendinitis, exercise might not be the best thing.

If it's a tear, exercise is probably out anyway.

If it's rabdo, you probably won't want to exercise.

If it's a joint, you probably won't want to exercise.

If it's referred pain, who knows.

If it's DOMS, doing z2 for an hour would probably feel good, even if stairs might be a chore.

  • Zone 2, for cardio

  • Just bought a 30kg weight vest.
Its a lot heavier than I expected...

  • 30kgs heavier?

    .... It's a 1/3 of a person...

  • and half of a lighter person.

    For weighed pullups and chinups.
I can do a couple of pullups with 20kg on it, but almost broke my face putting it on.

  • Think of all those folk carrying it around trying or thinking about losing 30kg … see how much harder their heart is working

  • 100%, 20kg is about the difference from the heaviest I've been to the lightest I've been, and putting it into a vest gives you a real appreciation of what that difference feels like!

I had thought of going for the 20kg vest, but 30kg gives room for improvement.
    Thinking of doing 5 reps pullups x 3, 5 rep chinups x 3 at 15kg, and adding a kg a week.
I'm dropping just under 1kg of weight a week at the moment, so should compensate for the weight drop.

  • I'd never heard of rabdo before. Slightly worrying discovery, as i think the last time I left a gym and was pain-free the next day was circa 2011 and i'm rubbish at warming up.

  • I love a fitness fad and always fancied a weighted vest. I see a guy walking with one on. He seems fairly desperate for people to see it and know he walks with a weight vest

  • There is no way I am taking the weight vest out of my house or to the gym, or walking any length of distance with it.

I know mental cross fitters go running with them, but my knees would murder me.
