I hear you, the ache/cramp in my calf has subsided somewhat, still get a niggle today if I push off, or over extend as I walk, but nothing as bad as yesterday. Off the board today, and watched some beginner how to video's yesterday and today, and I think I'm getting what @Drakien and @Tonts are saying, think I've been pushing with my knees and toes, rather than the whole leg, which is why I haven't been getting much distance with my pushes, and have to push a lot to get some speed/momentum up.
Will get back on the board tomorrow, but will start doing some balance and pushing exercises on the board over the next week to see if I can work out the kinks and get more stable and comfortable in that range of motion..
One thing to remember is that skateboarding forces you to move in lots of weird ways that your muscles and joints aren’t used to. Not really an issue when you’re in your teens, but when you’re at average forum age, it can take a while for your body to stop complaining and get on with it.
It feels like every time i go for a skate and I try something I’ve not done before, I’m committing to a couple of days of mild aches in funny places.
