  • Hey, stupid question I know but how do you push with the flat of your foot rather than the ball of it?
Went for another skate today and after about 30mins my calf tightened up so much I couldn’t push off with it. Thinking ive been using the action of pushing off on your toes rather than whatever the correct motion is.

    Any suggestions?

  • Swing your leg from your hip more, don’t push as much with your knee.

  • @Drakien is right. Think of pushing as a continual one leg half squat (find the balance that you can hold it and roll comfortably with your pushing foot dangling). Once you have the balance you can use your pushing foot to slow down by dragging it.

But back on to the pushing foot, don't flat foot it, much more effective and comfortable to use the toes / ball area in a strong swing (like @Tonts said) but keep it light on contact. You might see some pros stamping down to get some aggressive speed but you don't want to be doing that for 20mins around the park.
