Yeah, the good ones don't fall off so readily - they're made of a better plastic. I was an early buyer and I don't think I've ever lost one. I've definitely found some extras though. Still try not to buy plastic stuff though.

Does anybody know if ceramic speed UFO drip would be suitable to use as lube for speedplay cleats? Don't really want to go out and buy something if what I've already got at home will do the job

Boast post

Haha unintentional boasting. In my defence I got it for a significantly discounted price!

I've used Squirt lube before and would think any dry lube would work. I think you just want to avoid making a grinding paste with dirt that'll quickly wear out the body.

The old version or the new version?
I used to use White Line Teflon but now I just don't bother lubing cleats. I need someone to measure wear and tell me I've been a bad boy and might bother again.
-

I don't bother but then they stiffen up and clipping in and out becomes difficult. It is necessary with speedplay sadly.

I've never noticed them get any harder to clip in - only brand new cleats seem to have more resistance. The shoes I'm using now are so worn there's probably an extra couple of mm movement in all directions. Lube would do nothing. It's only a matter of time before the springs snap. If I was proactive I'd change the cleat body to a newer one before this happens. IF...

The new one.
My pedals are brand new and I can clip in with the right foot no problem but can’t for the life of me get the left foot to clip in. I was hoping that a bit of lube would magically solve my issue -
• #1336
I'd lube new ones but also check that the bolts (actually screws) haven't been overtightened - does the spring move freely by hand?
-
• #1337
I've overtightened them before and it stopped the spring moving at all.
-
• #1338
The springs seem to move when I push them and I can see the little arrow thingy move when I put the cleat cover caps on.

Looking for a set of walkable cleats if anyone has any. Pref not paying £50 for a new set. Cheers

That's good then. Add your lube and see if it helps.

Worked a treat! Thanks for all the help

The power pedals have just launched. £850 dual sided or a bit less for single.

Does anybody have one of the old speedplay 2.5nm torque wrenches going spare by any chance? They seem totally unavailable online
-
• #1344
Do you need a Speedplay one? What's wrong with a normal torque wrench?
If you did specifically want a preset one, there's other brands (but it seems a bit of a waste):

Hey @hippy. I have a Park Tool 5.2 but it’s pretty fiddly down at the lower range. I have always just fitted the cleats by hand, following the Speedplay “click” instructions and done totally fine without a torque wrench. I snapped another(!!!) c-spring today and replacing it with one of my last spares I thought how handy it would be to have an unbranded/ritchey/Speedplay 2.5nm torque wrench. I’ve been replacing and updating my toolbox recently and quite fancied one if there was one languishing at the bottom of someone else’s toolbox going spare

I've never used a torque wrench on Speedplays. I've snapped a lot of c-springs but I very much doubt it has anything to do with bolt torque. They have the handy click guide but also, if they're too tight they don't work and if they're too loose - well you just wouldn't leave them loose would you? Anyway, yeah, you can get other brands is more my point but I have a couple of torque wrenches that do 2.5Nm and I've never used them for cleats.

100%. I know that the c springs just snap from wear and tear - it’s always my right spring that goes because that’s the foot I clip in and out with in traffic etc.
Just want a 2.5 torque wrench out of pure tool desire, nothing more complex than that. Would never bother torquing them with my park tool 5.2. The fact it’s not filling an urgent need is why I’m speculatively hunting for a second hand one

Fair. Ignore my shit above about buying a new one. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

"These pros will try anything to make their bikes lighter"
They were pretty useful for the original metal cleats, less so for the walkable aero cleat.
