Almost 20% of pupils were not in school in the week from Monday 24 to Friday 28 January, according to the latest figures from Stormont' Department of Education.
It is really going around in schools atm... and son/ex/his missus/their son are still off with Covid. It kicked off last week on Thursday.
Nothing super serious but not exactly asymptomatic/just a cold either.

534 deaths today.
Easing restrictions going well then.

534 deaths reported today which include a backlog. The trend is going down.

Got up, took an LFT, faffed fro 30 minutes getting ready, looked at LFT - no T, got on bike, got 1/3 of the way to the office when my other half called to say I have a faint T. Cycled back home. So annoying, was beginning to get some miles in again and enjoying having a bit more light.

Last night was the first time I noticed BBC News saying that the deaths being reported were Covid positive in the last 28 days may not have died of Covid.
Is that a new thing?

This makes me so happy to see someone quoting them in here.
So, specimen date for infections, date of death for deaths. NOT reported date.
K thanks.

No. Obviously I will be shot down for saying this but before the agenda was to make you scared. Big death numbers= big scared. Now they want you to get back on with your lives so they slide in little hints to make all the scared people feel a bit less scared.
Here is the actual numbers of people who have COVID as the only cause of death- -
• #26409
No, it's been the whole "with" vs "from" discussion.

Aw yeah always a lot of confusion about that but strange to see the BBC now delivering it with that very important caveat.
-

My husband has asthma.
That's a risk factor for COVID death.
If he gets it and dies from it, was it COVID or asthma?
Should he be "scared"?
Reporting with context fine, but death certs won't always be clear cut. This "only COVID" is also not the whole story.

Tx going to have a read.

Totally get it, just trying to give context as to why they are only now giving the caveat and to highlight the use of psychology to shift a populations mindset.
-
• #26414
Certainly a good thing anyways. Or otherwise ppl find it hard to see why omicron is milder as evident in this thread
-
• #26415
No worries tx.
Do you think this is all planned?
That sounds a bit too competent for this government :)
Seeing as one nose droplet is enough to infect (recent study) I wish they'd be using their masterplan, if there is one, for a "we are free be kind pls to vulnerable ppl cover your face' plan :)

Still not fun, son and ex are coughing for a week now and still testing positive.
But I'm happy we can go places again. I'll definitely keep the "muzzle" on though!

This makes me so happy to see someone quoting them in here.
They were quoted by a pie chart hating dashboard lady who I've known for a very long time. I even stayed in contact when she moved south of the river :(

Oh hello!
I only follow that person, but may have been interviewed by her for a job. -

Ha, however I answer that I will be considered a conspiracy nut on here! For me there is no simple answer, only more questions. In my opinion it's best to keep an open mind about everything.

If I am reading it correctly, there is no pre departure testing required for travel to Spain and none on return after the 11th February. Can anyone advise if this is correct or not?

Anti-vaxer on Question Time with pages of notes and who has listened to Joe Rogan taking on Robin Shattock is not what I was expecting for my Thursday night
-
• #26422
I thought that was a great QT last night, it was possible to hear the reasons why vaccine uptake is hard.
-
• #26423
I know they are trying to deal with the final vaccine hesitancy but shame they didn't have that kind of debate a year ago publicly to reassure people but then again, how much does the QT audience overlap with the hesitant group
-
• #26424
Zero overlap
-
• #26425
Really?
Did you listen to the nurse who raised the question?
Flu vaccinations in hospitals were hard. Pretty sure consultants/nurses/staff will be in the audience of QT.
Then the woman who said "I know what my body needs, I isolated for 12 not 10 days". She sounded pretty hesitant and not tooooo crack potty.Yer man with the posho voice and Joe Rogan notes arguing with an actual expert about vaccination using his philosophy degree? Yeah well, in the sea obvs.
But how had he got to that thinking?
The earliest I could have been allowed out was today. Despite a negative lateral flow at the height of my symptoms, I'm back to testing positive so cooped up for a little while longer. I've managed to avoid winding my girlfriend up too much and have quite enjoyed getting to spend all day catching up on jobs round the house, reading and watching films. I would absolutely fucking love to go for a walk or a bike ride though.
