Latest on partygate
Catherine Roper, the senior officer in charge of the inquiry, said….the investigation would “absolutely” not last more than a year.

Yes, looks as if they caught poachers with illegal game and didn't realise they were armed and dangerous.

It's about value, not size
Haven't you just described how council tax works? Banding based loosely on property value.
Council tax should probably be 5-10x what it is tbh
-
• #70655
Even for renters ?😅
-
• #70656
Well, sort of, but it's based on 1991 values, the bands are all over the place and it applies to renters instead of owners

What is the point of the Speaker? It’s fine to stand in parliament and bullshit constantly, but someone points said bullshit out and the speaker throws the person telling the truth out.
Hoyle is an oaf
-
• #70658
That's not the fault of the speaker, it's the fault of the rules.
Rules which Hoyle is actually following, ironically.
-
• #70659
Absurd rule, frankly. Don’t see what the actual point of Parliament is, if this is what it’s reduced to.

Absurd rule
Agreed.
It feels like the filibuster in the US. A bonkers rule that exists due to history but no one has ever had the political will, clout or appetite to reform.
-
• #70663
Misread your meaning then. Apologies.
-
• #70664
Well, yes tbh. Excluding renters probably opens up a massive loophole.
I'm tempted to say it should apply to both the owner of the property and to tenants, in some kind of proportion. -

Was Dorries pissed on C4 news also? Broken the Ministerial Code, if so - as she was straight from the chamber.
-
• #70666
No problem!
-
• #70667
A total train wreck, pissed as a cunt
-
• #70668
Dorries knew what exactly what she was doing. Now everyone is talking about her, rather than the fact we've got a PM who is under active police investigation for persistent breaking of the law.

The speaker should've done a better job of explaining why Blackford was ejected. A good explainer here:

• #70670
Didn’t he stop the process / his explanation because Blackford walked out anyway and one of the clerks then stopped Hoyle mid-spiel?
-
• #70671
I don't buy it - that credits her with more intelligence than I think she has. Plus I don't think her terrible interview has that much cut through
-
• #70672
She got her levels all wrong, needed another line to sober up before going on the news.
-
• #70674
There was a some analyst on the news the other day talking about how Putin respects strong decisive action during negotiations.

Perhaps one part can be for sewers and other maintenance so tenants pay it, the other part can be based on capital value?
Increases in local taxes aren't going to be popular. Perhaps if they are matched with resident panels for oversight it's more palatable?
Cos paying taxes going to a "turd country" / we just chuck some tarmac in a hole and call it done private company for maintenance for a profit.. cha. They better do a good job then.
Does that get Ukraine out of getting a visit from Liz?
