No real downside beyond aesthetics. It does a better job keeping the slop inside if wider and gives more room to avoid stuff getting jammed.

I might return the 45mm version I ordered and get some 53s then! I might like some fatter tyres at some point anyway. Thanks for that.

Good rule of thumb is 10mm at least wider than your tyres.
Another rule is:
"Generally, fenders should be about 40% wider than your tires. This allows them to wrap around your tires without encroaching on the required clearances. This works well for tires up to 42 mm wide, which are best used with 58-60 mm-wide fenders." -

My P-29er has no fender mounts at all, so I P-clamped the lot. It's silent.
It is however very fiddly to mount and remove the fenders, and I don't want to do it more than once a season.

Silver. GK Slicks fit okay with 45 mm Pelago, EXT or SK not anymore. I would still recommend either 50 mm Berthouds or the new 55mm version of Pelago for that extra clearance and coverage.

Thanks! It's the slicks that I have. It sounds like you have some experience with this - have you got any pictures of the GKs with the 45mm Pelago guards? I'd go for 50mm Berthouds but they're just a bit more than I was planning to spend.

Flaps, what flaps are about to give that 'rally' look.

Got some Pelago guards on my Surley but I notice the fixings on the front are quite rattly even if they're tightened as much as possible. Any suggestions on how I can eradicate this? Do you generally apply something to the bolts (loctite or similar) before fixing them?

I've used these type of rubberised spacers as in picture:

Here's a comparison of 38 GK with SKS Longboards, Pelago and GB, if this helps:

They're worth it.

It does! Thanks very much.

Noted! Thanks.

On the Pelago guards, Is the angle between the stay and mudguard fixed on the front or can you adjust it before you screw the bracket down?
My fork mudguard mounting point is half way up the fork. On my PDWs you can pivot the stays on the mounting bracket, which saves having to bend them, but I don’t want to splash out on another PDW for the commuter!

Something new for the Ti Stockbrokers

Bargain 😳
Do they genuinely think someone will spend that on mudguards?
-
• #5246
Do you simply mean do the mudguards come pre-drilled or not? They do, but I don't think it's an issue as the stays have typically been so long so that they can be easily bent to a desired angle for disc brake etc.

Horrible front fitment, and comically short to boot.
-
• #5248
Not quite, I was trying to find out whether the bracket that attaches the mudguard itself to the U shaped stay allows you to change the angle at which it attaches before you bolt it down,
-
• #5249
Do you have a picture of said bracket?

My thoughts too. It barely ever rains in Palo Alto anyway
Will 35c semi-slick Gravelkings be alright under 45mm Bleumels or would be the 53mm be a better bet? What's the downside to having excess space under your guards?
