Shipment from the EU will be charged import VAT at a rate of 20% of declared value, but whatever handling fee the shipper uses. You can easily find that out by calling whatever shipper you're using.

You won't pay anything if value is under the personal limit of £135.

As a nice twist, if you're buying from a VAT registered business in the EU you can ask them to bill you without VAT (19% in Germany) then you'll pay 20% on import so only end up paying an extra 1%. If it's an individual you're buying from this doesn't apply.

Insurance value doesn't have to be connected to customs value, but depending on what shipper you use it may have to be.

But, don't declare for under value. Aside from it being illegal, tax evasion is for cunts. You don't ask shops to not charge VAT and this is exactly the same.

Asking on behalf of a friend. He's got a carbon Flandria frame of some sort, the integrated seatpost is too short. Is there anything he can do to raise the saddle a bit or is it new frame time? Excuse the saddle angle...

You can buy longer seatpost toppers for quite a few brands that use them, don't know if Flandria is one of them though. It does look like a fairly unique seat post shape.

I think he's spoken to them already and they didn't offer any solutions!

I broke a bike a few months ago and have agreed to buy a replacement.

A colleague at work wants to buy the groupset and I am happy to sell it to him at less than market rate, but I have no idea what that would be.

SRAM Force 10 speed, everything but brakes - I can't really see equivalent sales on here or on ebay, I'm thinking I'd try for around £175-200 and so offer it to him for £160 - is that a good ballpark figure?

The bike is an airnimal folding bike with flat bars and mechanical disc brakes. Are they likely to be compatible with drop bar levers, or would they be MTB? Assuming it's a stock Airnimal Joey, which it says comes with Avid BB7s?

Joey usually came with flat bars but there were some drop bar versions.

Ah Force 10 speed. The best. Almost retro now! £160 seems ok depending on condition.

Thanks Howard. His bike is a flat bar one but he wants to put drops on it, so the question is whether he'll be able to do that without having to swap the calipers.

There were road specific versions of the BB7 to better match with the non linear pull you get from road leavers IIRC

I’d just try it though see how it feels. If it’s crap I’d get spyres or something.

Bb7s say on then whether they're road or MTB, the MTB ones will feel pretty shitty with drop levers.
