  • I've gone and brought myself a cruiser (board and wheels) as my BiL is going to try and get firstborn (almost 4) into skateboarding. He's already made up a couple of paw patrol decks for him. I've never skated, so I'm going to give myself 6mths to get comfortable on it (I'm only getting it so I can follow along with him/them to the skatepark, and show solidarity)
I'm after some reverse kingpin trucks (as advised by BiL) and was wondering if anyone had any, and if not, if there were any forums I could have a look at to see if I could get some for small beer, I'd prefer to buy some secondhand rather than new (repair/reuse/recycle and all that)
    Let me know

  • Great deck! I haven’t been in the market for skate stuff for a long time so when you said ‘cruiser’ I assumed it was going to be a chopped down longboard, maybe cambered with a pintail or swallowtail, but not that. I look at that AH deck and it says ‘vert skating’ to me.
So, if you were to get regular wide trucks and use wedged risers, you’ll get all the turn you need and clearance for big wheels (and later you can de-wedge and convert it for skating transition with smaller/harder wheels). Go onnn, do iiit.

Edit: 60mm wheels. Yeah. Regular trucks with some positive wedge for turns. I dunno whether the reverse kingpin trucks are still as high as they were back when it was a choice between a Randal 150 or a Randal 180, but I think keeping the board as low as possible is worth doing.

  • I was also going to say regular trucks + wedged risers. I’m thinking of building up something cruise-ey and happen to have some wedge risers and ricta clouds in my skating parts bin.
