Quite a lot of warm air where I stay, but the amount we see and service now is down to a handful most folks have moved away from it also when you do go to change usually there is a lot of asbestos in the cupboard that they are in so an additional cost if you want it out.

Been quoted £5k inc VAT for two cupboards + 6 shelves in alcoves a couple of months ago by a local joinery company

can you not just remove skirtings, lift the existing flooring, put down the mat/diffuser plate/pipes, then put the existing flooring back down? we have cork tiles laid on a suspended timber/insulated floor.

Have you ever tried to put laminate back down after taking it up? Usually burst and is knackered.

Really looking forward to the story. I'm quite buoyed up to hear it's still possible for creative people to do this without the archetypal hedge fund spouse in the background.

DIY installed sheeps wool insulation a few years ago. Has since got moth infested so the manufacturer is making sounds like they will cover the cost of replacing it.

I am trying to avoid fibreglass which gets in the home air and is generally horrible. Thinking of replacing with the same company's hemp insulation which I have read doesn't attract moths and tastes bitter to rodents, if they will agree to supply it as a suitable replacement.

They have asked me if I have got any quotes for replacement cost. Anyone have any ballpark figure on what it costs to have 40m2 of insulation removed, moths vacuumed up, and new installed? Cheers

What was it? We have thermafleece cosywool under our floors. No sign of moths that I can see, but then again we've got an airtight membrane over it all so even if it was riddled with the blighters I don't think they'd be able to get into the house.

Any recommendations for removal firms in East London? Also an indication of what you paid would be very welcome.

We used Grays Storage and Removals Limited, very happy with them but you may want to move your plants yourself. Very careful with everything else but seemed to have the attitude that you can't avoid damaging plants so why try!

We moved from a 2nd floor 3 bed flat to a 3 floor victorian terrace E8-E10.
Moving £710 ex VAT
Packing with all boxes etc (inc taking 2 beds apart and rebuilding) £375 ex VAT

This seems to be all movers sadly, a specialist plant moving business could be a great little business!

I have two enormous olives trees in pots in my garden. One I can shift the other needed 4 strong blokes to haul it out of the car and into the garden. That will be fun.

I used Stork Removals and they were very good.

Would strongly recommend the packing service, it made the whole thing incredibly easy. We packed one bag each and they packed the rest.

Impressed by these packing quotes, surely that takes ages?!

We had packing done by removals people when we moved and i was amazed how good / efficient / quick they were - 2 guys did the whole house in about 5-6 hours (including disassembling beds etc!)

Key is that they aren’t distracted by what is going in boxes, which is why it takes so long to do it yourself. If you ruthlessly put everything straight in a box, use tonnes of wrapping paper etc and never stop to think what was being packed, it becomes much quicker…

We used Rogers Removals (East Finchley). We moved NW London to NW London and also had them do everything.

Definitely recommend the packing service - it's amazing how quickly they do it. Let them in at 9am, pop out until ~3pm and it's all packed up. Then the next day - moving day - pop out until you get the keys and meet them at the new place to let them in. Pop to the pub while they move all the boxes into the new place.

Worth every penny (price comparable with those already quoted).

I think part of it is that they have loads of packing materials. In the past when I've been packing I've been arranging things so they're protected, stacking stuff together,etc.

With them doing it everything just gets wrapped and into a box. 2 blokes for about 6 hours was the same for me

Ah yeah, that makes sense - no sentimental attachment or thought given to what is being packed makes it a much quicker process...

the big BG tell me I need a new tariff, that is £835 more per year as a fixed tariff, currently on a variable so need to change, any help / ideas is grateful on how to not be bankrupt.

Sounds like the quote i have is not ridiculous but this varies loads and may be some mileage in trying to do this myself… will research more
