  • been really nice using a bunch of parts cupboard stuff on the cycletruck. Bodged a single speed onto it with an old 105 rear mech. the cargo area will bolt onto the frankenstein's monster-like things on the headtube. Borrowed the idea from the bombtrack cycle truck. Havent made the cargo bit yet tho, thats the next job.

  • Its sort of rideable at the moment but the brake does effectively nothing so havent ridden very far. I need to get a proper lever, the cross top levers have no leverage. Will be interesting with it a bit loaded up, there is some geo adjustment possible in the fork because i used some old track dropouts. so can increase a-c and rake by about 15mm/10mm respectively. It was more out of necessity than anything as those were the only suitable dropouts i had, but it may come in handy.

  • not into the bars tho

    Dibs

  • Amazing. Does the wishbone tube thing have another function?

  • This is going to be great. You've brazed in a tube, nice work.

Is there going to be a front brake?

  • hah will drop you a pm when i find a replacement :)

  • thanks, not really other than i wanted to give it a go. Maybe i could store something in the horiontal tube

  • brazed in a tube

Hah yeah i got about 70% of it welded then ran out of argon so did the rest with the torch

    front brake

yeah, ideally will fit a disc, but dont have a disc wheel, and dont want to spend money. so will put some canti bosses on in the meantime and use the rim brake wheel i have. I havent put the bosses on yet tho, need to make some sort of fixture to hold then in the right place

  • Ok well the v brake idea did not happen in the end, i made the fork legs too wide, but thats ok i just got a disc wheel off @MCamb (thanks!), welded a disc tab on and was good to go. Maiden voyage to the pub yesterday evening was extremely successful.

Handling feels a bit twitchy but pretty much fine, not really sure what these kind of bikes are meant to ride like. Was a 90 min rounds trip to the pub and back and by the end of it i was really having fun, its just a really fun bike to ride. Brakes felt excellent, more than enough stopping power. Singlespeed was surprising good as well, its a pretty small gear so spinny on the flat but great over the hills. Forced me to take it easy which is no bad thing.

Ive gotta find a nicer box tho, and some way of holding stuff down inside it as there was a bit of rattling goin on. I may also just do a platform but have run out of steel to make it out of. I think i will also build some more forks with different geometry, i reckon some more rake and a bit of a-c would help it feel a bit more steady.

  • Looks very neat!

  • Great job!

  • Thanks! yeah im really happy with it, now just trying to find reasons to ride around on it. had a very fun trip to homebase today to buy a drillbit.

  • Looks great! Did you ride it with any weight in the box, might account for the twitchyness?

Give me a shout when you want to try your hand at a longtail-cyklotruck!

  • Really nice! Any plans for paint?

  • thanks! i had a bit of weight in the box bot not loads, just a big lock, shoes etc. Probably around 5 kg. Will fill it up at some point and see how it changes things

  • Cheers, ideally id get it all powdercoated, but i dont really wanna spend the money right now, so will probably put it off til spring

  • unfortunately crashed the blue bike and put a pretty hefty dent in the top tube when the bars hit it :( so will have to add a repair for that to the list of things to do, fortunately i have a surplus of top tubes at the moment. I will also shift some bosses around and fully demote it to winter bike. Its a bit on the heavy side as its mostly zona stuff. So have bought a spirit tubeset to put together a lighter weight version for the summer.

  • dent looks worse in person

  • Looks pretty bad from here too.
    Hope you're not hurt.
Maybe time to put some couplers in the frame ;)

  • Yes to couplers, the world needs more coupled bikes !

  • Looks quite bad, hope you're okay and the bike suffered more damage than you did!

  • Nothing too bad thankfully, just washed out on a corner and landed on the bike. i actually rode around on it for about 100km before i noticed the dent hah.
Ive got a bruised butt and some road rash but all fine !

  • Well, had a slow few weeks, but slowly chipping away at things. I started on the mtb and have gotten most of the way through it. Its been interesting challenge and quite different in a handful of ways. lots of new things. Ive just gotta weld some caps on the wishbone, and weld it to the frame then itll be done. Should be really, cool. Was cool to work with 853 as well.

  • used the paragon sliding dropouts as the rider wants to be able to run it singlespeed. He's also 6ft5 so the frame is pretty large, ive hit the ceiling with it more times than i can count
