  • It really is the fourth form debating society for him, isn't it.

I am probably overstating his maturity.

  • An entertaining segment from his Wikipedia page

It was reported in The Times on 5 November 2021 that Wakeford approached Owen Paterson and called him "a cunt", after the Government, under the instruction of prime minister Boris Johnson, instructed its MPs to vote to change rules on the way MPs' conduct is policed

  • Plus he only beat the Labour candidate by 0.8% in 2019 and could probably see the writing on the wall for the next election.

I hope he's not reselected. On the plus side:

  • Jinx

  • Boris is certainly toast but which kind, burnt or well fired? Gone by midnight or limping on til the end of the week?

  • He was laughing and rocking in his seat as Blackford asked questions. It's just pathetic and embarrassing.

  • He’s a horrible right-wing cunt though, proper Brexit flag-shagger type. I don’t want him in the Labour Party either.

  • He did call Paterson a cunt, so, there's that!

yeah, I don't like the look of this in some respects, but in the eyes of your average voter this looks bad for the Tory's and good for Labour.

  • I agree with that. Apparently what pushed the South Bury guy over the edge was the whips threatening him with re-districting which would have removed his seat anyway, so very much a nothing to lose scenario for him (if he didn't fall into line like a good boy).

Apparently the condescension and insults that various cabinet ministers have levelled at the "rebels" have made things worse too.

  • Who do you want to replace him?

I don't have a preference. It is a poisoned chalice.

Are any of the others actually any better as people/human beings?

    Marginally at best.

  • He did call Paterson a cunt, so, there's that!

Even a stopped clock, etc, etc...

  • Dan Hodges reporting…

so that’s guaranteed not to happen, then

  • Actions have consequences, how is that left or right?

As the British army is allowed to give career talks it's not that left ....

  • Secondary.

Not sure I would give such an assignment myself.

Just gets to show how angry people are that he thinks he can do whatever.

  • In a WhatsApp message in 2021, the then Tory MP Christian Wakeford - who has today defected to Labour - called the Labour Party, and I quote: “A bunch of cunts”.

    when you're right, you're right

  • With that said about them, does the labour party have to accept him as a member?

  • Others have been refused/booted for less iirc

  • They already have - he didn't just cancel his direct debit to the Tory party then fill in the form for Labour. He's been busy shaking hands with Sir Kier and stuff.

He will have gone to Labour and basically said 'will you have me'. They'll have then coordinated on when to make the announcement to cause maximum damage.

  • If that's what he thinks, what does that say about him? Does he think that's where he'll feel most at home or something?

  • what does that say about him?

That's he's as venal and self-serving as all the other politicians, he's seen which way the wind is blowing in Bury, and he's trying to save his own skin?

  • “I think Labour are a bunch of cunts, but I prefer them over you!” isn’t the huge gotcha that the Right seem to think it is.

  • Whips doing whip things but the Red Wall Tories aren't having it:

  • As far as I'm aware though, even if these allegations are true, there's nothing that can be done.

"Exclusive cognisance" (Parliament’s right to govern its own affairs) means that no one else could declare this behaviour unlawful, and the government has already shown how little it thinks of the ministerial code.

I think the most severe outcome from this could be a parliamentary suspension.
