  • I think those slubbys look too slim tbh. Good about on rivet and hide for try ons.

  • While you're there and in the area, go to Clutch Cafe. Best guys, best shop. Think they're more likely to have the fit you're looking for than R&H in all honesty.

  • Yeah clutch are always super nice another vote for them

  • Re. Repairs in London the dry cleaners on D’arbly St is still doing great patching and darning work for less than tenner.

Pockets and stuff I’d tend to specialist denim shops

  • Got given some jeans for Christmas, waist size may be a touch optimistic but I can/will address that but, no matter what I do, they will be a touch short. I thought there might be interest in this thread.

What are we looking at? A pair of 36R Folk 13.5 oz stretch selvedge straight fit jeans, never worn but tried on to confirm that too short.

  • @ChasnotRobert

I've got the same experience at Rivet and Hide, very helpful and friendly.

I usually struggle finding jeans to my liking, especially here in Italy where it all seems to be slim / skinny or super skinny fit. My calves tend to disagree with that trend.

I ended up with a pair of 3sixteen, this one to be exact:

    https://rivetandhide.com/3sixteen-ct-100x-classic-tapered-indigo-selvedge-jeans.html#tab-description

They've bled a bit already and have yet to soak / rinse them for the first time. Curious to understand how much they'll shrink, I've left them a little longer initially to play it safe.

  • Repairs - I have used Son of Stag and Denim Doctor.

SoS was handy for 1 pair as I could drop them in (no p&p)

Denim doctor though were great on the last 4 pairs- I sent off 3 pairs of Edwin Sens and a pair of G-Star Raw that I picked up from TK Max for £16 in a way too big size. I asked The Denim Doctor to re size them to
Match a pair of my Edwin’s. All came back after 3 weeks ready for another few years of wear. £109 in total (inc p&p) 3 blown crotch plus a total rebuild

  • How skinny a fit are Edwin 85?

Say compared to 551 slim fit.

    Cheers

  • The Edwin “made in Japan” salvage jeans are great imo. Also got a pair of ED55 which are not made in Japan but very good quality. ✌️

  • great work by Denim Doctor - many thanks for the recommendation.

  • Maybe a little too baggy at the bottom but I love my Jelado's I recently gifted to myself... Have a slight taper, Sit nice on the waist and comfy around thighs etc. I also tried on some Stevenson jeans which had a similar fit.

  • Wow, that really is. Top work.

  • yeah, i wish I'd sent him my Hiuts as well.

  • I have some Edwin rainbow selvedge jeans.
I guess the done thing is to turn them up to show the rainbow?
Should I iron this or just loosely turn up?
Also, they are black jeans, should I rinse them before.wearing to minimise the color rubbing onto other fabrics?

  • Do not iron. Turn up if you like the look or if they are too long. I always rinse new jeans (if unsanforized) to remove any potential shrinkage. If sanforized, I'll still rinse them, just to make them softer and remove any factory starch and thus they'll be comfier.

  • How come no iron?

I thought I remember reading somewhere it makes them softer.

  • Thanks @JB I was hoping you'd reply.

Out of interest where do your jeans hem sit height wise? And what would you consider an ok turn up size (before I think about getting the jeans shortened)

  • This is a question to ask yourself.

  • I am talking about ironing folds in specifically. (But I don't iron jeans either because denim doesn't really crease very easily, so not sure why they'd ever need to be ironed). When you iron a turn up, it creates a weird artificial turn up. It is as if your jeans have been sat there for months with weight applied to the fold up and it doesn't sit naturally IMO. I can't really describe what I mean, but when you wear them, it's like your turn up has a brace across them that makes them sit straight across your shoe, instead of in a circle around your shoe? Not sure if that makes sense.

@sacredhart - obviously just my opinion, but my folds have got smaller and smaller and smaller over the years. I opt for a more drastic hem now with a smaller fold. Previously I'd have them shortened to like 30/31" and have a decent size turn up but now I hem to 29" and have a tiny one.

  • I made this to explain what I meant. Lol. Left is natural turn up. Right is what happens when you iron one in.

  • Interesting feet you got there JB, I’d have that checked out if I were you…

  • I’ve got some new with tags 32w Folk selvedge jeans for sale here if they’re of any interest to anyone?

  • Ah right. I've got you.

Funny about the Edwin rainbow selvedge jeans, as I've just bought a 2nd hand pair that have fucked fades. Feel like I have paid too much but we'll see.
