  • Been there done that. I'm looking at you Bulgaria.

  • Could be hairy in a storm at night!

hippy's always hairy, as if he'd need a storm.

  • i'll apply again if i get the chance? looks good.

  • I've got my place back!

Has there been a new race manual with the latest controls?

  • Sweet! Yes, there is. I can send it to you?

  • Yes please, pm'd

  • Why is Komoot so shit?

I only ever look at it to get TCR route info and each time it seems to have managed to get worse than the previous time.

I wouldn't mind if it would just say 'you can't download a GPX file without paying £x' rather than just not have an obvious way to do the thing most people will obviously want. Even if I did upgrade, it doesn't actually tell me that it would enable me to do what I want.

Or has anyone worked out how to download the parcours? I want to download them so I can then do my mapping in RWGPS. Although, TBH, I could just re-draw them, like in the old days!

  • It's shit, so shit.

  • Or has anyone worked out how to download the parcours?

I remember trying to do this last year and I don't think it's possible which seems ridiculous??

  • @hippy please could you change thread title to 2022 (or 2020-22)?

  • There's a button that says Send to gps device, it will download a gpx.

Earlier they have given vouchers for racers to get the premium membership or whatever it's called.

  • Send beer and your wish is my command...

  • That's what I expected.
I have the global collection from a past tcr, but the button, 'send to phone' is greyed out.

  • Thanks.
The beer is in the post!

  • Get someone with a sub to download.

I do think its crappy to lock the route into the application. Gpx files should be available to download from event organiser.

  • Just a reminder that once downloaded and say uploaded be careful to check them.
When I uploaded it to RWGPS the route changed. Maybe a specific file type avoids this?

  • Having this same issue with Three Peaks. I've painstakingly redrawn the final parcours but Jesus, what a pain in the arse piece of software.

Also amused when I had a play with it that it tried to send me up an unpaved side of a mountain that would have involved 2-3 hours of hike a bike.

  • I don't know if it is good for a type of riding that I don't do, or it's written in a style that my brain doesn't get, or if they just spend loads on marketing and get people who haven't used anything else to say how good it is on social media.

I'll just re enter the parcours. That's what we had to do way back when you just got little maps in the manual, and it's a good way to have a detailed look at them. Plus I've already got Durmitor so only three to do!

But, upgrading is only about £30. If it had been obvious that that would have worked I'd have just done it last night so I could have had a full draft route. They don't make spending money easier any easier than anything else.

  • I think previously they have given riders the paid for subscription? They kept updating them last time too, about 60km from the start everyone I could see in front of me took an older version

  • Yes, I have that paid for version, which is to do with unlocking regions, which they gave us in 2019. But they seem to have another dimension to it.
Not a big deal to re enter the parcours though. I could probably have done it in the time I've spent moaning about komoot!

I think they kept getting advice from a guy who lives in Bulgaria last time. But he wasn't the best judge of safe vs dangerous. I recall he reckoned the main road into Sofia was dangerous but it was flat, wide, and good surface, so a pleasant run in to town, especially with a screaming tail wind on a Sunday afternoon when I did it. Whereas routing across fields and dirt tracks was hazardous in a different way. However, tricky for them to ignore advice from someone local from a risk POV

  • So who else is riding...?
    @jakemcree

Any others going for the third attempt?

  • The options are different on the SRMR routes for some reason, there's an export button, but need to be logged in at least, don't know about the subscription https://www.komoot.com/tour/101589299

  • I have the same version and have always been able to download routes. You want me to try?

I remember the shenanigans in 2019 with the parcours that changed as soon as you exported it from Komoot. I think the original route was drawn up a walking track by mistake or something. Took a few goes to get it right IIRC.

  • From someone who doesn’t really enjoy the route planning part of this type thing I feel I need to like the look of site and komoot just looks a bit lame imo. I rate Strava, massively improved recently.
