Stop frame animation - software advice please

Posted on
  • Hello,

LFGSS seems to be populated by folks who, collectively, can do everything. Is anyone able to give me some stop frame animation advice.

I work with primary aged special needs kids and recently one has shown an interest in animation, we've made flick books and done the thing with a rolled up bit of paper moved back and forth with a pencil. Can anyone recommend a simple to use (and free) bit of software to make an animated short using one of our digital stills cameras please? (The last time I did it was on super 8 when you could still send off the Kodachrome carts.)

    Cheers.

  • Have a look through here might help.
I'm sure there are user friendly phone apps also

  • Hello @Tadpole i have forwarded your question to my daughter, she graduated in animation a few years ago at UEL. This would be a great project for any kid, hopefully there is a basic programme out there for what you need.
    Cheers

  • Thanks folks. I appreciate it. T

  • Surely apples suite of included software could do this. Is iMovie still a thing? There's also a bunch of free animation software on the iPad, although more geared towards drawing each frame.

  • So my daughter has responded this morning saying that she doesn’t know of any free software. However as a teen she used iMovie on her Macbook and dropped 12 frames per second, this is the standard for stop motion apparently, but don’t let that rule the day. That was over ten years ago, we also still have clay models co located around four homes.

  • What hardware do you have at the school?

I was looking around earlier in the week for decent/easy to use software and, if you have ipads, Stop Motion Studio looked to be the best (free) thing i could find.

  • I’m afraid it’s just PCs

  • Edit: Wrong thread.
