Yeah the bottom end Miele is already a couple of hundred more than I wanted to spend, but I was tempted by the claims they last 20yrs - would prefer to get something longer lasting for both value + environment reasons. The F&P stuff is almost double that!

I think I am with @cozey on this, probably not worth it. It will be annoying but we will have to wait for an suitable opportunity (if porch gets work done on/house changes hands) and mention it then. In the meantime, if I ever get on a ladder I will remove that excess piss yellow paint on our side...

Can't fit a bike frame in that (other large items may apply)
There seems to be a weird premium for kitchen goods with individual draws over doors to a single large compartment at the moment. I await the draw based washing machine.

@cozey I did not get this.. do I need to read more Tufte? Please explain, so much colour, lines, textures!!!
Jokes aside, we really like the house and the area so unfortunately I will have to train my patience! Thanks all for the advice and simpathy @Bobbo @johnnettles2 @revenant. et all -

I doubt that will go down well or be particularly easy...

we've been fighting this since we moved in, 3 year old dishwasher has broken heating element, IKEA wont talk to us because we didnt buy it, replacing it you need sliding hinge but they've been almost entirely out of stock for months.
-
• #50684
Pretty sure they have the sliding hinge in stock online now - I ordered one a day or two ago?

Fisher and Paykel is a kiwi company stuff is all designed and manufactured in NZ plus they pay their staff well.
In Aus and NZ their stuff is not too expensive (but still a premium brand) so I imagine that when the government signs a trade deal with NZ that is shit for us and great for them because Brexit the price will come down.
They do last, I have one of their fridges and its great. The customer service is awesome when I need spare water filters etc but it is a little odd phoning a UK # and being put through to a nightshift worker that sounds like an extra from once we're warriors.

this is what you need to install a 'not sliding hinge' dishwasher into an ikea kitchen, but looks like a faff.
I still havent replaced ours because I cant find an in-stock sliding hinge dishwasher, with cutlery drawer from somewhere that offers installation.

The one I linked further up?
It's definitely within normal DIY skills. I'm as hamfisted as most and there wasn't any more than normal levels of swearingedit: Ah, missed the post above while writing

Fisher and Paykel dish drawers
Found out about these when a mate wanted to have 2 in his flat instead of cupboards. Didn't do it in the end.
Got to say they are an excellent design idea - although idk why every shot has them at such a low height negating the benefit. Price aside my concern would be how long they've been in the dishwasher business vs others and whether they're actually built to deal with hard water.

did you install yours into a new kitchen? my worry is that given this is replacing a pre-existing dishwasher something unexpected comes up that i cannot fix, then i have a problem

They don't have to do anything about it. They'll resent you for it, or at least be a bit confused that you even bought it up. If you buy that place, you are 100% stuck with it.

The selling point is that each drawer can be run separately from the other
I had one of these (not F&P) in a flat. Being able to run a half load was really useful, as was one drawer with clean stuff and one with dirty.

Look at the gap on the block above the door; the right side is covered by the extension;

A fairly low budget update shortly before selling
Some new IKEA cabinets and worktop. Existing dishwasher with a new IKEA front on it.
It's the wider door, left-but-one of the fridge -

They have been in the home appliance game for aaaaaages just not in this country.
They negate the impact of hard water by providing filter units for appliances that require water.

Isn't the salt supposed to deal with the hard water in the dishwasher?
By all accounts they're very, very good but I'm not sure if they can be good enough to justify the price. The selling point is that each drawer can be run separately from the other.
