Also, the predicament of 'not being a multi-millionaire' isn't generally recognised as something people need 'rescuing' from. If Epstein hadn't been there, she'd have had to, what, get a job? With nothing but an Oxford degree and some of the best connections money had bought? Yeah, you can see how that desperation would lead the best of us to the conclusion that the only way out was paedophilia.

Not a lot. It's just a factoid which caught my eye. The town is in Carpathian Ruthenia, which changed hands many times. It was in Hungary for most of the war. The Nazis rounded up the Jews, including most of Robert Maxwell's family, who were killed in Auschwitz. Ghislaine is sometimes presented as a member of the English upper class, but I wonder whether she sees herself more as a persecuted minority, struggling to survive.
