  • I was miserable and stressed start of 2020 (98kg), rode more, ran more, lifted weight and ate impeccably to get down to 82kg (wont get much lower than that while being strong) by the summer and was beginning to sort my head out...now I'm back up to 92kg and I'm properly happy and balanced. Which seems to be making it harder to motivate to shift that 10kg back to fighting weight :)

I am not yet complaining because life is good.

  • Sorry to bump this thread but the end of the year has seen me add a little paunch - I’ve unfortunately added weight at the same time as losing muscle. Not a great combo but I have a decent excuse of becoming a father, a nasty cold (not covid but maybe it was) and then the holiday season. As such I’m up to 84kg. Not enough exercise but mostly unhealthy eating and drinking have been the cause.

Plan is to get down to 80kg by end of Jan and then down to 78kg in Feb but at the same time build muscle back.

  • Good luck with your endeavours. It’s a common theme at the moment with my mates and myself. Covid restrictions/Christmas/long working hours/crap diet/lack of time or commitment to do anything all result in lost fitness and weight gain. I think it will be hard to shift it too as nothing will change for a while.
I bought a book about motivation - maybe it’s time to give it a read!
And with all the above, I’ve managed to injure my bad knee in the past 20 minutes!

  • Good to get going a handful of days before the New Year I think.

Trying to start while nursing a horrendous hangover on the 1st/2nd isn’t the best start.

I hit 80kg yesterday which is pretty awful, so aiming to be back to end of last year weight of 68kg.

Most of the weight was gained at start of the year with Covid and lockdown eating, and continued due to significantly reduced post covid energy levels, and lockdown developed deliveroo habit.

I’m currently having 68kg as the goal, and working backwards. I am fully aware that weight as the only measure isn’t optimal, but am pretty aware of increasing fitness and strength during the process.

  • Similar here. Had a pretty bad year so up to 85kg after Xmas. Shooting for 75kg by May. More time on the bike, less beer, better eating habits I guess.

  • Better eating habits is the biggest thing for me, as I typically do about 7-8h of exercise a week.
Assuming an average of 500kcal an hour burned through exercise, and a 500kcal average deficit a day, 0.9kg weight loss a week.
Just over 13 weeks to target, so setting 31st March as target date.

  • Approx how many calories a day of food? Usually I shoot for 1700 or so and back it with 6-8 hours of exercise (obviously in 2021 that was definitely not happening).

  • Exactly the same for me… working from home and having a one year old around made me complacent. Always easy to find a good excuse to skip a work out and eat trash food. I am 6’1 and have hit 88kg for the first time ever… I feel my best at around 78 too but feel for the first time that it’s gonna be a challenge for me to get fit again, having turned 33 this year.

  • Waddling around in lycra in public places sure is motivating. Dropping the car for an MOT at the showroom was the last straw. I have a lot of riding gear, which isn't cheap as we know, and none of it fits properly anymore.

I have 3 months to drop the 10kg. And I will.

  • Yeah, approx, 1500-1600 kcals a day, but eat extra to make sure I don’t end a big workout day doesn’t go too far negative.

  • There’s probably enough people for a 10kg in 3 months wager/club…

  • having turned 33 this year.

Get a fucking grip! 33 is bloody primary school.

  • It's certainly young for this forum

  • I’m listening…

  • I guess a new and separate thread for a 2022 weight challenge? A bit more accountability and support is usually helpful for sticking on plan.

  • Sounds good. I am in.

  • I'm game.

I mean I get enough accountability with my main riding partner calling me a fat c**t fairly often...

  • Riding partner won’t give a shit if you lose 1kg, besides, the more you lose, the more likely you are to drop him up a climb…

  • Ha he's only messing and it doesn't offend me at all cause I know its solely on me (no kids/wife/girlfriend and I cycle for a living ((slowly))

I binge eat biscuits and chocolate like a trooper...looking forward to turning it around, again.

  • I amm 104kg and am happier 30kg lighter, as I was 6 years or so ago.

Need to shove less food and booze down my big gob.

  • Hehe sorry, slowly seeing myself morphing into a dad bod did this to me

  • What are people using to calculate BMR?

Different websites / formulae give different results, ranging from 1,900 to 2,400 per day for me.

I realise that I can easily change the target, based on resulting weight loss (if any), but that could take a few weeks to dial in.

Or I guess I could start at a number, and just reduce it to a level that is "comfortable" and sustainable.

  • I worked with Mike Matthew’s site. Loads of very usual info on there

  • 1 week in and down to 82.5kg and also looking a little less flabby. If I can get to below 80kg this month and maintain that for a bit that would be good.
