The dog that is. My dad was only rehomed about 3 years later for poor behaviour.

Congrats! Took three years for mine to get on like that.

Our family dog of some years took a severe dislike to me as a newborn, also had to be rehomed.

Dogs have a sixth sense about these things.

Congratulations! We have two pet humans, aged 3 and 6, and a really want a dog. Reading this thread regularly makes me wonder if we’re ready for the commitment. Let us know how it goes.

From what I've read introducing a puppy to children is easier than the other way round. If a kid doesn't like the dog as long as they're not scared of it it's not really a problem but if the dog doesn't like the kid then that's a pretty big problem. Both involve sleepless nights and poo in the early stages if your ready for that all over again. And at your kids age they'll become part of the family very quickly. Our family wouldn't be complete without a dog in it but i grew up around them since I was a baby so i would naturally say go for it dogs are awesome but it is a similar level of commitment to having another child and sometimes even more of a bind.

I have yet to fund any of my dogs through university. However, none of them ever learned to drive, but my daughter picked me up from an annual piss-up today. Both dogs and kids have their advantages, luckily they tend to like each other.

Our dog did not like our nipper. He didn't dislike him, but there was a great deal of distrust and he definitely didn't like to hang around with him. After about 3 years he started to thaw and now they sleep together happily. Even when he didn't like him, he was still protective of him with other people. I reckon he thinks the wean is a small, errant cow rather than one of his people though.
We gave him his first bath in about 6 months today and as a reward, went out for a walk in the park where he promptly, bloodily dispatched a squirrel.

Not bad, catching a squirrel at 3yo

should be bathing your son more than once every 6 months though.

We got our pup about 18 months ago, when child #1 was 3.5, and have since introduced child #2 who is now 7 months.
Pup is definitely more protective of the small one, tries to groom her etc.
Biggest adjustment for me has just been needing to be available for 2 or 3 walks a day, every day, whatever the weather.

Crumpet and my 18 month old niece get on like a house on fire. Some gentle ear/tail pulling is a small price for Crumpet to pay for as much left over toast/chicken nuggets as she can hoover up.

Jesus, I'm glad Scotty is a lazy bastard, he's more than happy with once a day, especially if he gets a good run and a fight with a friend.

Merry Christmas from Crumpet-clause. Having the time of her life chewing wrapping paper and skulking around the dinner table.

My puppy has incredibly long "dick hair"
From where he pisses, it is matted and fairly long.
Last time he came back from the groomers it was still present, so am unsure if it is trimmable?
Can I safely trim this or is it important for his knob?
We had an old english sheepdog called Henry when I was born and after I was brought home from the hospital he wouldn't let my dad anywhere near me and was very serious about it. amusing anecdote but meant he had to be rehomed not long after. :(
