Finally got to try fruit bun. Stopped at
Nice & SpiceSpice & Nice in Camberwell for some food after a late night discharge from Kings. She sorted me out with a feast and they had some fruit bun from Platinum Bakery in Norwood. This one is a sort of cross between Soreen and a hot cross bun (but not malty tasting like Soreen). Yeah it’s good. Would bun again.

I was in a position to experience Christmas properly at someone's place this year but Omicron has shat all over it.
We are making pizza and tandoori chicken for Christmas, there is cheese to be eaten and port, we even have a (plastic 2nd hand) Christmas tree now with the usual fear of 'dont want kid to feel left out' .

Do you need more decorations? As a kid, in a family that didn't really do Christmas, I was all about the diy decorations. Then a bit later, cooking a big dinner. I think the first time we had a tree was when my sister brought one home that had been left out by students at the end of term.

This year, I'm getting the fuck out of London and going riding with the missus.
This is not a traditional Christmas but then neither was the first 20 years of life swimming in 40C heat on xmas day, after finally waiting the torturous 30mins after eating or "you'll get a cramp and drown" nonsense that old people used to tell us.

Okay I know this is an Easter tradition but we have bun, in lieu of Christmas cake, Panettone etc. @cafewanda I promise not to skimp on the Red Leicester, my GF has complained also

Equally I haven’t posted any Christmas cards, no decorations up. Yesterdays Waifs and Strays was a reminder to myself that living alone can be really tough. So today is my Christmas as GF will be visiting we exchange pressies and cook a feast for two.

Also here’s a thing;
serving hot crisps at the table for Sunday and also Christmas dinner. I have only experienced this at the ex in-laws house in Banbury, never anywhere else. My daughter offered me this yesterday with pigs in blankets, gravy, cranberry sauce, when I called in after waifs and strays. Also youngest daughter suggested this to her BF yesterday as they did Xmas in Bath, which was received with a puzzled look response.I haven’t the heart to say that perhaps; ‘this is what poor people think rich people serve at the dining table’. Maybe I should have called this out long ago.
I continue to look on the crisp packets for serving suggestion, nada..

If made with decent ingredients, prawn cocktail is delicious. Add a bit of crab or lobster if you're feeling extra fancy.
Follow up with pastry covered meat and some kind of vegetable mousse for a traditional feel.
